My chances for Cornell?

My dream college, far out of reach as it may seem, is Cornell. It's the only Ivy I'm interested in, however. Although if my GPA improves or I get a better SAT score, I think I'll apply to Dartmouth too.
Should I apply ED for Cornell? Do you think I even have a chance? And what else could I do to make my stats stronger?

Race: Pakistani

GPA: 4.4 weighted (5.0 max for PAP/AP, 4.0 max for regular/non-academic; our school requires us take quite a few non-academic classes)

Idk about UW, our school doesn't put stress on that, but I made 3 B's first freshman semester and 1 B this semester. So, around 3.8.

Rank: 10 / 655
Average school as far as academics go- 1-2 go to ivies a year, around 2 more go to Rice Univ (nearby prestigious college)

SAT: Not very good, but this was without studying- I'm going to hardcore study this summer.
Math: 720
Critical Reading: 650
Writing: 650

EC:
Just average.
-Dedicated member of a few clubs hold officer position in 2 this year.
-Yearbook/Newspaper staff
-Freelance photographer- made around $1k this year (its my first year)
-100 hrs Hospital, probably get 200 by end of senior year
-50 hrs Animal shelter (this is a legit passion of mine)
-40 hrs misc. volunteering

AP:
Recently took English, U.S. History, and Human Geography. Aiming for at least a 4 in all.
Going to take Calculus, Govt, Economics, English, Physics, and maybe Euro History next year.

Also, I know 1st gen college helps, but what about 1st gen college in the U.S.? Haha, I don't think so, but I'm just checking.

You seem to have good stats…the ecs seem a little weak though.
haha unfortunately no, 1st gen US doesn’t count.
I still think you should have a good chance depending on how good your essays are.

Thanks! Lol, I was hoping it miiight help. Haha.

Ugh, I know about the ECs! My parents are pretty restrictive and don’t let me do too much. They still don’t think EC matters and say good grades and near-perfect SAT score are all I need. Umm, obviously they didn’t go to college here.

that’s unfortunate you don’t have your parents’ support.
but maybe you can specify in the common app in the section where you can write additional info about yourself.

Unless you’re from NY and applying to a land grant school, current stats are not competitive at Cornell.

I don’t know, simply looking at the fact that your school only sends a couple to ivies and you are ranked tenth seems to suggest that it is a reach for you. Sorry if that’s a bit harsh, but try looking at some UC schools, they don’t look at your freshman grades.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/898730-chances-duke-penn-cornell.html

I know my stats aren’t competitive. If I get in, it would have been a stretch for sure. I’m considering taking 5 AP’s next year, which would bump me up at least 2-3 ranks. Although by then, it would be too late to apply for ED. Also, a 2200 on SAT wouldn’t be too out of reach.

Isn’t applying from out of state a plus?

And Evanescence1234- I was thinking about that! I don’t want to complain, though. But I think I might be able “get” them on my essay/interview. Some people apply to Cornell because it’s an Ivy or their parents want them to. That’s definitely not my case. I’ve had to almost fight for every single extracurricular I’m in and I missed out on a good paid internship. And my parents don’t want me to go to Cornell! (Although I think lack of parental support may be a negative, lol) At first, they weren’t even considering letting me apply to school out of the city, unless it was Harvard or MIT.

Yeah EC’s are a tad light (let’s make 40 into like 100 hrs.).
For UW gpa just average up all ur final grades and divide that by 25, that’ll give you a more accurate GPA. SAT’s really should be like 2100-2150+ bro…
And yeah, Cornell ED is awesome. It’s a much higher acceptance rate for that. Plus, thnx to lower yield rates, deferrment’s not that bad.

No, OOS is not an advantage, parts of Cornell are part of the NYS school system and many seats are for NYS residents. The parts that are not are ivy competitive, i.e. 2200 plus scores, top of class, top ECs wanted. If your stats are not competitive, chances are slim, admission is about being competitive.
