Schools

  • Safety (certain admission and affordability)
    University of Arizona
    Arizona State University
  • Likely
Colorado University - Boulder (The acceptance rate is high but I know CS is competitive so I’m not sure where to put this)
    UC Merced
  • Match
    UC Santa Cruz
    San Jose State
    UT Dallas
    UI Chicago
  • Reach
    University of Wisconsin - Madison
    UC Davis
    Purdue

Calculate your HS GPA for UC purposes at GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub . It will calculate three HS GPAs. Most UC web sites use the weighted-capped version unless otherwise specified.

For CSUs, the HS GPA calculation is the same as UC weighted-capped, except that semester college courses count as two courses and two grades each.

Note that the UCs and CSUs will be ACT/SAT-blind.

SJSU CS is probably a reach for you. Freshmen Impaction Results | Admissions shows fall 2021 admission thresholds. For CS, the 3400 score is equivalent to a 4.25 HS GPA, or 4.00 HS GPA for those graduating high school in Santa Clara County (local area bonus).

Fall 2020 admission rates by campus and HS GPA range from Freshman fall admissions summary | University of California :

Campus 4.20+ 3.80-4.19 3.40-3.79 3.00-3.39
Berkeley 37% 14% 2% 1%
Davis 86% 55% 16% 7%
Irvine 60% 38% 9% 1%
Los Angeles 38% 8% 1% 1%
Merced 98% 97% 95% 88%
Riverside 97% 90% 65% 30%
San Diego 78% 39% 8% 1%
Santa Barbara 81% 40% 9% 2%
Santa Cruz 92% 82% 59% 26%

These are for the whole campus. Different divisions or majors may have different levels selectivity (usually, engineering and computer science majors are more selective).

I don’t know about most of the OOS schools you list but, with a 3.8-3.9, I’d reclassify test-blind UCM as a match and UCSC as a slight reach. I’d add CPP, SDSU, CSULB, and Chico as solid CS programs with good student experiences that are likely to admit you.

apply broadly and good luck.

Add UCSC for CS
