My chances for Duke?

<p>I'm applying to Duke Early Decision in about a week. My testing scores are:
SAT total: 1990
SAT Writing: 630
SAT Math: 650
SAT Critical Reading: 710
SAT subject tests -
US History: 570
Math I: 590
Literature: 660
ACT: 29
I've got an ample amount of community involvement and charity work, I'm student body
VP, I play varsity basketball (I'm obviously nowhere near good enough to play for Duke though), and I live in NC (not sure if that would be a factor).
Hoping to be an economics major and then possibly study law.
I know it's a long shot, but what do you guys think?
And also, considering my subject test scores are relatively low for Duke, do you think I should maybe just submit my ACT score, since it's overall slightly better?</p>

<p>Duke gives Carolina students a bit of a bump. Otherwise I would say you don’t have much of a chance at all without some major hook. I don’t know anyone who got into Duke with your profile and numbers, but I don’t know an Carolinians who applied.</p>

<p>Another thing worth noting is that I’m taking the SAT one more time Nov. 2, and I’ve recently taken a class on it and expect my score to go up to around 2100. Apparently I can send in my score from that before they make decisions. If I manage to do that, what do you think?</p>

<p>Chances are low for sure, but stranger things have happened. CPT is correct on a bump for living in North Carolina or South Carolina. I believe its 15% of student body must come from these two states. Luckily your writing is lowest instead of the other two. Focus on math for your next SAT. If you get a much better score it’ll still be a reach, but a way better chance.</p>

<p>The 25th percentile for ACT scores at duke is a 30. I think that living in NC will help your chances a bit, but your essays should really blow the ball out of the park if you want to get in.
Also, if you’ve taken the ACT writing portion, then you should submit that. Good luck!</p>

<p>Hey guys I got my final SAT scores back today and I upped my score to a 2200! Critical Reading 740, Math 730, Writing 730. How much do you think that helps me?</p>
