Unweighted GPA: 4
Weighted GPA: 4.512
Class Rank: 3 of 400
ACT: 33 composite (34 superscore), 36 math, 35 english, 11 writing, 31 reading, 34 science
EC's: Debate team, robotics team, science club, and the world peace club (just for fun).
Awards: AP Scholar with honor, Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute medalist, pretty much always math student of the month, plus 99th percentile on a national German exam twice in a row.
My essay is decent and I'm pretty sure it'll be ~60th percentile.
I haven't gotten rec letters yet, but they'll be OK.
My classes are the hardest possible (6 APs this year, 3 in science, 1 in math).

Your statistics look similar to my son’s. He was accepted ED1 for the Class of 2017 for engineering.

All 5s on my APs so far: Physics C, stat, world history, comparative politics, and an 800 in math II.

Your academic profile is strong. A decent essay and an OK LoR’s aren’t good enough. Work to make those outstanding. What about leadership, community service? Any EC’s beyond being a member in a club?

My leadership/community service are on the weak side, but I do see a group of freshmen for 90 minutes every other day in study hall through a program at school. I help them with their math and stuff. This is what I wrote my essay about in order to emphasize leadership/comm. service, which are some major weak points in my app. I also tutored a bit junior and sophomore years.

But beyond that, no. Any advice on what to do about that?

When Vanderbilt or any other top school assembles its class, there will be more to it than student body presidents. Maybe you are a good team player. Do you help others succeed while finding time to succeed yourself? What I am trying to say is that I personally think you will come across better if you try to reveal your true self instead of straining to present (in essays and elsewhere) what you think they want to hear. This will weaken your app, in my opinion.

Your academics are pretty impeccable, so you have done the really hard part. You are a strong candidate for admission especially ED. But reflect on yourself and take pride in what your really are, which obviously is pretty darn good.
