My biggest concerns are my poor GPA and my sporadic EC's.

Feel free to ask me for chances as well. And it's alright if you don't know enough about every single university - any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Again, this is a looonng list, so feel free to pick and choose.

Gotta be honest, it’ll be really tough to get into half those schools with your GPA… CMU, Cornell, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, and Caltech are all mid-high reaches, in my opinion. Can’t really say anything about the rest.

I forgot to add that my GPA counting 10th and 11th grade is a 3.86, with all but one of the B’s coming from Spanish. I guess that would help…a little.

What’s your UC GPA?

You have an outstanding SAT score the only problem is your GPA. At engineering schools they weigh the GPA a little more than the SAT because being smart can only get you so far. They like to see hard workers

basket-weaver: It is a 4.14

wait…

no, I’m pretty sure I’m calcing it wrong.

oh, nvm.

Yeah, 4.14

Ok…why is it that when I speculate a straight A first senior semester, but UC actually decreases due to the cap on honors? That’s just ridiculous.

Where did the 3.58 come from?

Wait nvm i thought you were referring to my post…

On another note, how did you prepare for the physics subject test?? That is an incredible score. Im struggling just to get a 600. Do you have any tips?

Hm. That’s a huge difference between your unweighted and your UC GPA. And yes, the cap can be annoying for people who take lots of APs and honors, but that’s the way it works.

If you have a 4.14 UC GPA, UCLA and UCSD are probably matches. UCSD might even be a low match.

^basketweaver, it just doesn’t seem to make sense that, including my first semester senior grades projecting straight A’s, my UC gpa would decrease. That’s a very odd system they have there.

Socoengineer, I’d recommend that you start studying early and get help from teachers or someone you can count on to understand the concepts first - then, you can start prepping to the test, such as working with time management and the 48 seconds you have a question.

bumpity bumpity bump.

lol IDK how I’m supposed to draw attention

Your SAT scores are definitely good enough. Your GPA might hold you back though, but there’s not much you can do about that. I can guarentee that you will get in to Georgia Tech, idk about the top tier schools though. They do tend to be somewhat random seeming in their admissions, though. IF you can write an outstanding, unique essay you can probably get in. It also depends on the scores of your classmates (you could look brilliant compared to the class of 2014, but medioce compared to 2015).

I got into UIUC and Purdue engineering with an EXTREMELY similar GPA to yours, and a 2130 SAT with a 750 in math. Also, im OOS for both, and i had a good number of extracurriculars…so if i can get into these two schools, you should be able to get in too.
