Your ACT score is significantly better than your SAT score so I’d apply with that.
In my opinion:
Reach - Duke, Vanderbilt
Match - Emory, Georgia Tech
Safety - University of Georgia, Appalachian State University
You should have no problem whatsoever getting into UGA and App State and I’d say you stand a good chance of getting into Emory and GA Tech. Your ACT score is below the average of admitted students at Duke and matches that of Vanderbilt so I’d consider these a reach but definitely still apply as other parts of your application are very strong (like your APs). Your SAT score drags you down so I wouldn’t include that if possible.
My advice is to find some more match schools. I see you want to be in the south so I recommend looking at schools like William & Mary, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Virginia and Wake Forrest University. You also still have a strong application so maybe look at another reach school like Rice University.
Good luck
I don’t see why you would would apply to GaTech. You don’t have any STEM ECs or STEM APs. You should consider LACs.
I agree that you should send in your ACT, not SAT
-vanderbilt- reach but maybe waitlist
-UGA- accept
-Gatech-reach/accept
-appalachian state-accept
-duke-reject
-emory-accept
can you chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1982366-what-are-my-chances-will-chance-back.html#latest
Vanderbilt, Duke and Emory take a large portion of their class ED. Acceptance with a 33 will be iffy RD. If one is your dream school apply to it ED.
Thanks for the helpful response!! I’m touring a bunch this summer and I’ll keep those in mind
I didn’t just ask about tech there are 5 other schools I listed I’m keeping my options open and being a GA resident tech is automatically somewhere I’m going to look into.
Thanks, I’m planning on taking the ACT a 3rd time and trying to get it up a point but I agree, I plan on only submitting that score. I’ll make sure to chance you as well

@emileeanne You cant apply to 2 schools ED. You have to choose one
@emileeanne Go in with your ACT results, and there is still time to take that test again.
Main question - what do you want to study? Are you undecided? GaTech could be a reach school in your situation. Have you thought about UK? What is important for you in your future place of study? Which schools did you visit already and what is your feedback?
@RussianMom Thank you I am retaking the ACT in June! Hope to get it up a point I’m leaning towards majoring in forensic science and taking the pre-med track. I haven’t really researched schools in the UK because I would prefer to stay close to home (which is south US). I’ve only visited App State and Liberty University. Both were beautiful schools and had lots of opportunities. Those are 2 safety schools and I really enjoyed them. I’m touring Vanderbilt, Emory, and GaTech this summer.
I would recommend trying to raise your class rank but don’t mainly focus on it, retake sats, and focus on conveying to schools what you learned from the horses.
Emileeanne - forensic science is not offered as a major at UGA or GA Tech… you may want to cast a wider net for instate schools since those are getting very competitive. Albany St has an accredited forensic science program, for example, and may be worth a look. Also noted in another post that you are a soph, if so you have plenty of time to look/do research.
@emileeanne UK - University of Kentucky.
