My chances for getting into UCLA...with two C's?

Hi everyone, I’m freaking out here…
It’s been my dream to get into UCLA since I moved to California. I got one C both semesters this year in Alg2/Trig (I’m a sophomore). I took regular classes…and my gpa for both semesters is a 3.5. I am taking 3 aps and one honor next year and I plan to not screw up like I did this year. I’ll be taking the SAT soon as well and I plan to get somewhere from 1450-1550 (it’s out of 1600 now). I’m going to nationals for FBLA this summer and I’ve won at my science fair this year and 3 awards so far in FBLA.
Just be honest with me, what are my chances of getting into UCLA now? It’s so hard to get into the UCs now and I’m really afraid these two C’s are going to ruin it for me. 3 years ago, my sister got rejected from UCLA…her gpa was better than mine, but she had a low SAT score for UCLA…
If not UCLA what about UC Davis? Please let me know thank you!

UCs in general value GPA more than anything else. Try your best and see what happens. Make sure you have good safety schools on your list.

It could happen though I encourage you to be more open minded about the next phase of your life.
I gotta say, a 3.5 and just one C is nothing to hang your head over.

Sadly people with the best of stats routinely get rejected by the top UCs, nowsaday, so nobody should count too much on those two schools. Mid-tiers would be more feasible for you perhaps, unless you go straight A’s from now on.
By the way look at the good side of it: Is not it much better to get your only two Cs in the 10-grade than in the11- grade?

Hi @Ballerina016 thank you! What if I get a good SAT score? And what about Cal Poly Slo…what are my chances there?

@uclaparent9 Thank you! What do you mean by mid-tiers? Like UC Irvine?

OP, there is no really no way to chance you until you have finished out Junior year. You can then calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Along with GPA, test scores, HS course rigor, EC’s and essays will be considered for admission to the UC’s. If your UC GPA is at 4.0+, then you have a chance at UCLA and all the other UC’s, but there are no guarantees.
Learn from you mistakes and strive to do better next year. Apply to schools that fit your stats and not the other way around.
If you are interested in Cal Poly SLO, they also take 9th grades into consideration for their GPA calculation which could boost your CP GPA over UC GPA (only Cal State that considers 9th grades in GPA). SLO acceptances are very dependent upon intended major. There are some majors which are easy admits and some that are just as competitive as the top UC’s.
Come up with a list of safety/match and reach schools next year and you will have plenty of choices.

Good Luck.

Every UC posts this kind of data on their admissions website. You can see on the chart that UCLA admitted only 4% of applicants with a UC GPA below 3.7. I also agree with Gumbymom-there are lots of great colleges out there, and you have plenty of time to research your options.
