I want to attend the Harvard Summer School SSP program mainly because my schedule for next year is having conflicts, this is my projected schedule for next year (Junior year):
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
AP English Language and Comp.
AP US History
Honors Precalculus
i go to an extremely competative private school in the southeast, definately near the top ranked in the southeast and my academic advisors are telling me that this is going to be extremely hard first of all and second it will be very hard to schedule because the AP sciences take up 4 periods with labs
the head academic dean suggested i should try to take one of the sciences at a summer school so i want to take the equivalent of AP Bio at Harvard SSP which i think is Intro to Biology and it is 8 college credits
I am pretty sure that i am in the top 5% of my class because i have a perfect gpa right now and am at the top but my freshman year GPA was a 3.95 out of 4.3 (A+=4.3, A=4.0 at my school and all honors classes get bumped up a 1/3 of a letter grade at the end of each semester)
I take the hardest classes that are offered at my school
the problem is my test scores
i got a ****-poor 164 on my PSAT (48 V, 57 M, 59 W) i know i could have done waaaaaaayy better if i had practice some tests which im doing right now
im sure i will have outstanding recs and i probably have the best ECs at my school but i dont think they look at ECs for summer school b/c there is no place on the app for them
the essays i have written for my Honors English class are excellent and i think i have to attach one of them with my app
So what do you people think of my chances for the Harvard SSP program this late into the year because this issue has just been recently brought up and will my PSAT score pull me down and get me a rejection even if every other aspect of my app will be excellent
PS. im trying to send this app in a week or as soon as possible

It's certainly a possibility, I got one of those things too, and I'd take one of the economics courses if I was not already going to two camps over the summer....

I don't know how hard it is to get in but it can't be impossible.

I had a 201 combined on the PSAT(1270 with 740 in writing) and didn't expect to get anything.

Really, I doubt it's all that hard if you show genuine interest. Remember that not everyone can easiliy pay, out of pocket with no finance plan, in the range of 7 to 8 thousand dollars.

i know the cost but im gonna only take 1 course which is 8 units and costs around $4000
my family cant afford that
i will need some financial aid for this

it doesn't cost 4k, it costs 11k with the room and other stuff.
SSP is no selectivity, everyone gets in!!!

bump
ne one else have any opinions

any other opinions?
newbyreborn is right, it is about as selective as your local community college...dont worry about it

practically everyone gets in. i went there the summer before my junior year (two years ago--im a senior now).. it's a fun experience, but very very very pricey..

class and boarding etc. is like 8-9k.. then you'll want to eat out, shop, go places, airfare.. i spent about 11k that summer..

Your chances are directly proportional to your ability to pay for the program.
