My Chances for MIT?

I basically wanted to know if the closest things to getting me into MIT are my love for math and science? Well are they? :)

The best thing is to use your love for math and science in a unique way. As I mentioned previously, it would be very notable if you helped out with science/math in an elementary or middle school. Where I live, the local university has a pretty famous Little Shop of Physics, which is a science outreach program that college students participate in to connect with younger kids. If there is something like that near where you live, that could be an option.

Another idea to show your leadership skills ALONG with the passion for STEM is to start your own club. If you guys don’t have a science bowl team right now, maybe you could get one started. Or, another option could be starting a science for fun club (where you do crazy experiments but also understand the concepts behind them.) There was a club like that at my sister’s elementary, and if you managed to get one going at a younger school, that would be really really good for applications!

The other thing you should look into is research/internship opportunities. If there is a local university, contact professors in the departments you’re interested in and ask them about potentially doing some lab work with them.

That’s very true. While it is true that I should be good at math and science, I should make the best use of it. I should apply my knowledge and help the community around me. Not only is it a unique way of helping, but it stands out and looks “unique” to my MIT college application. It definitely a way of making myself stand out and look unique to MIT. Thanks you very much Fotogenik. Your advice was very insightful! :)

Edit: Notable advice from a noble member! :)

Thanks Fotogenik!!!

Haha no problem. (: I don’t feel helpful very often, so I’m glad I could help! I wish you the best of luck in your future academics and endeavors, and in your college applications come that time!

But of all the people who posted today, your advice was the most helpful and insightful!!! So, I take the time to thank you for that. :)

@OrchidBlossom: Don’t forget IMO Gold Medal and IOI Gold Medal. :P

Thanks to all those who gave me insightful advice today!!! :)

Is there any other activity/acitivites that will benefit/aid to getting me the closest/closer to MIT?

I need as much advice from other committe members as possible!!! :D

I think if you work harder you will make it. MIT is very competitive… You might need to take a bit higher of a math class

And yes, if you are good with computers which I mean like C++ and Java, that will increase your chances by a ton going into MIT.

I’m taking Pre-Calc in 10th Grade, Calc BC in 11th, and Multivariable Calc/Differntial Equations/Linear Alg. in 12th Grade.

If I do get into MIT, I’ll already be in Real Analysis.

If no one else is going to post in this thread, I would like it to be locked please. I thank everyone for their insightful adivice. :D

Thanks to all again!!! I would like this thread to be closed. :)
