Hello, I am a junior at a competitive catholic high school in Connecticut. I have a 3.71 weighted gpa and 1250/1600 SAT (550 CR, 700 Math) (am taking it again, going through tutoring program right now). I am a member of the national honors society, and have volunteered over 100 hours total over the last two summers. I have also played varstiy football and varstiy golf each year. I have decided on studying actuarial science as my major in college, and have therefore come up with this list of schools that I plan to apply to:
Uconn Storrs
Boston University
Bryant Univertsity
Siena College
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Bentley University
Le Moyne College
Which schools can I consider safeties and reaches? Or am I qualified for all? Any feedback is truly appreciated
btw, unweighted gpa is somewhere between 3.4 and 3.5. The highest weighted gpa you can achieve at my school is 4.50
As far as I can tell, I’m only familiar with BU and I think it’s a match for you.
But you do know for actuarial science, you’d have to study many years, yeah?
Yes, I am aware there are many exams you must pass (At least 2, a max of 12), but the good news is you do not need to go to grad school for this program. You just need to pass the first 2 exams (which you take while an undergrad) to get a job, and the company you work for will often let you study for your extra exams while on the job. More exams passed will result in promotions. Everything about it just sounds great to me, being a “math kid”
You are on track at any of those schools except for BU with your current SAT score but you should be able to get it up, 2100 would be best. Good Luck!
Thank you for the reply back Jacob! And yes, for my SATs, I am confident i can get an 800 in math as long as I get more sleep the night before the test compared to last time (5 hours of sleep lol), and I have been working hard on CR in hopes of posting at least a 650, I kind of just zoned out during the test when I got a 550 last time
Hi,
All of your schools are all range and safety schools, except for Boston U. For Boston U, you have about a 30-50 percent chance. Your tests are great, but your Gpa is a low average. Even though extra curricular activities might not matter in selection, it’s always a good idea to be really involved, it could make or break you if you’re on the edge of acceptance. Sorry for the super bad grammar, I suck at writing according to collegeboard.
Haha this is actually my old post. I have a 1430/1600 SAT now so hopefully that puts me in good shape for BU? @alexwalex
