My chances for next year ED

Hey..I got my report card today and my gpa went from 4.08 to 4.13 thus making my rank better

what can I do to improve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try and get a little more ECs and raise the SAT score, get into the upper 600 range...

"try and get a little more ECs"

we're already at our second semester of our junior year; I don't think new list of extracurricular activities will help him very much. And I think he has more EC's but didn't mention them as they perhaps are mere laundry lists with 1 hour every week level of participation.

I started a club at the end of my junior year and put that as my primary activity. I don't think it matters when you start an activity. The activity should have developed your personal growth (i.e. leadership) in some way. As long as you don't come off as a EC hungry applicant, you should be ok.

Little chance without at least 200+ point improvement on CR+M.

Is Texas the one with required acceptance for those in the top 10% of their class? If not, you really need to add a safety school, or you might be in for a long year.

Good luck to you.

yes..Ut is my safety

From what I see right now, I don't think you have much of a chance. I really won't underestimate UTA though. It's also known as one of the "Ivies of the South."

at UT? I am going to get admitted...top 10% rule and all my family right now is there at the school

Honestly should I try for ED or is there no hope? I really want to get, but if there is no chance I will apply to another "reachable" school.

You should apply. If you don't apply, there's no way you're getting in. If you do apply, there's a chance (thought it could be small) that you could get in. Take the chance. Maybe things will work out. They might see something in you that they really want. But it'll never happen if you don't apply.

thanks you guys for your opinions.

Since you live in Texas, you might want to consider signing up to take Testmasters prep class to increase your SAT score. My son took their class and found it to be helpful -- especially in CR and Writing. It's somewhat expensive (about $700), but it's less than PR and Kaplan and we think much more effective. They also give out a word list for each SAT date of words that should show up, and the list was surprisingly accurate for the Jan SAT -- it had at least a dozen words from the list. If you decide to use them, here's a discount coupon you can use to get $25 off (they handed them out at the end of the course).

thanks...but I live the in DFW area.

Testmasters also gives classes in the DFW area -- they've branched out to a lot of locations throughout the country.

Their website is www.testmasters.com

Excel: anything can happen. :)

Are you guys who are evaluating chances admitted to Penn or Prospects because if you are Prospects the things you say wont mean anything.

UPDATE:
GPA - 4.13
Rank - 48 out of 710
