Northeastern is a commuter school that has a legion of trolls that try to make it seem better than it is - a tier II, subpar business school. Not to be mean, but people try to make NEu seem like this amazing school when it's clearly not. With that rant out of the way, I'd say you're in.

And Dodiefae, you're yet another to use one of those backhanded comments...our SATs were similar but my D had a higher GPA. People sure love those on here.

enviroman,
cut him some slack, he's only had 4 posts for heaven's sake.

trandaman,
what is this - NYLF/TECH - I don't recognize the acronym.

everybody -
if you can't check the status of your app online, and didn't put the little postcards in for the admissions officers to return, e-mail admissions after about 2-3 weeks to see if all is well.

Legion? It's only one person with many names on CC. I'm sure it's a decent school, but the person that trolls for it gives it a negative reputation.

Northeastern IS an amazing school and no longer a commuter school. It was indeed a commuter school until about 5 years ago before the new president arrived and committed major $$$ to new buildings, dorms, etc. as well as improving the schools reputation. He's been fabulously successful so far.

Just remember that NYU, BU, and BC were all commuter schools until recently and Northeastern is just the next school which is transforming its commuter school image into another great University. Its getting more and more competitive each year with over 25000 applications for 2800 spots. You'll probably get in with your stats but remember that it's even more competitive for engineering and business.

Don't listen to Snuffles or Enviroman and Snuffles is just upset because she got royally owned in another thread.

NYLF stands for National Youth Leadership Forum. It's a non-profit organization that helps high school students who want to go into particular fields of study(TECH, LAW, MED, and I think there's one in business). I went to the tech one and it was basically lectures from top people in the field. Guest speakers for 2003 included CEO of Intel, and the President of Lockheed/Martin.

You can try and own me. Fact of the matter is, NEU is a tier II school (it is only ranked among the top tier schools because USNews decided to abolish tier II) that gets a lot of applicants that can't make it into top business schools. It's a school with a 1200 SAT average and a whopping 35% of their freshman class is in the top 10% of the class. Don't forget the 50% acceptance rate!

Now, what schools are you comparing NEU to? BC, NYU, and BU?

NYU Average SAT score: +110 points (Stern Business school, + 220 points)
BC Average SAT score: +120 points
BU Average SAT score: + 100 points

Don't forget the % of students in the top 10% of their class:

NYU: 63%
BU: 60%
BC: 73%

Hell, these schools aren't "peer institutions" with NEU.

Oh, the co-op program. When was the last time Sachs recruited at the prestigious NEU? Oh, that's right, they don't. Morgan Stanley? Nope. Merrill Lynch? JP Morgan? Who does actually recruit those top quality NEU grads? Hmm?

BC and BU were similar commuter schools 15-25 years ago. Both schools have benefited from location in Boston. If looking for a reach school might try Brandeis, Holy Cross, or Tufts .

Way to jump to conclusions, Enviroman. Excellent effort.

I said absolutely nothing about NYU, BC, and BU being NEU's peer institutions. I only mentioned that those three schools were also thought of as commuter schools until recently. Thats it. Go back and re-read my post if you need to. The point is, is that Northeastern is now re-inventing itself in a similar manner. Its not there yet, but it keeps gaining ground and surely will be in the next 5-10 years.

You compared them when you said they were also commuter schools. Face it, NEU will never be a top 50 school. Big companies will never look to NEU's grads to fill the "big" I-Banking jobs.

Now if you're complacent to say NEU is a good tier II school, I'm ok with that. But as soon as you start comparing it to any tier I schools (top 50), then you'll get owned. Royally.
