You have a good shot. None of your extra-curriculars just scream out at me… but when they are combined with your academics… they paint a good picture. Good luck!

I think you have a fairly good chance. Peabody has a 50% acceptance rate and there are less people applying compared to Arts and Sciences. I would do the alumni interview - it helps and shows interest. I applied to Peabody, too, and just had my interview this weekend. Good luck! :)

My son also applied to Peabody , secondary education history. 34 ACT, 19/551 , 8 AP (6 5’s and 2 4’s), UW GPA 3.89, W 5.07 , baseball varsity and travel, umpire for little league 5 years, baseball coach for youth travel team 2 years, works 20 hrs a week at hardware store, in various honor clubs, national merit commended scholar. Essay average but solid and addressed his coaching and experiences working with kids. recommendations from coach and teachers amazing. White male, deaf in one ear. Chances? He did not interview but we visited campus. Vandy is his number one choice. Hoping for Cornelius vanderbilt award too

You’ll find out it’s 20%. Compare it to 11% for A&S and 16% for Engineering. Much less people apply to Peabody and their test scores are lower than A&S’s and significantly lower than engineering’s.

To answer your question, ClassAct33, you have a legitimate chance at getting in.

Classact and Perch you are both strong candidates and should have a good chance. Classact your GC LOR “not so good” may be a problem. Sometimes GC’s at public high schools get in the habit of spitting out generic LOR. If there is no reason for it you should talk to your GC and let them know you are attempting to get into a “most selective” university and see if he is willing to send an addendum that will fight for you to get accepted.
Students coming from elite private and magnet HS have GC’s who are well trained on writing LOR, they know how to play the game, and they have pressure to get their students accepted into top universities.

I agree with bud123’s comment for classact. Our son got into Vandy from a public high school with problems. He did a lot of groundwork with his references and with his GC regarding the slim odds of admission. He also visited Vandy for the first time on MLK weekend his senior year and sent in a couple of paragraphs to his adcom confirming and explaining why Vandy was his priority wish for admission in January.
