My Chances for the Ivies

<p>hey guys look at my stats and try to rank the ivies from most likely to least likely </p>

<p>here are my stats</p>

<p>Race: 1st generation Asian American
Area: Columbus, Ohio
lived in ohio age 2-9, korea 9-14, ohio again ever since</p>

<p>sat 1:2250
math: 780
reading: 760
writing: 710</p>

<p>satII
math IIC: 800
bio m: 790
chemistry: 700</p>

<p>AP US:4
AP Bio, Lang, Gov: 5 does this mean i am AP Scholar w/ Distinction?</p>

<p>GPA: unweighted: 3.98 weighted: 4.2
rigorous course load</p>

<p>EC:
-100+ hours of community service at Riverside Methodist Hospital
-4 yrs tennis
-2yrs science olympiad won 1st in regionals
-Orchestra Principal Concertmaster and section leader
-Columbus Symphony Youth Orchestra(2yrs)
-1st place Central Ohio Korean Math Competition (2yrs)
-Interened at Ohio State University Laboratory of Aeronautics and Astronautics(helped minorly in research for jet propulsion and aerodynamics of aircrafts)
-attended Korean Michu Hall Orchestra(in Korea)
-church praise leader for sunday and friday
-tutored ppl at guitar w/o pay
-volunteered at church for VBS teacher Grades K-6
-won various awards for violin/play in concerts
-accepted at Accelerated Science Program for Gifted Students at Yeonsai University(in Korea)
-7th in Seoul English Speech Competition(in Korea)
-National English Test Listening and Reading Silver Medal(in Korea)
-National Honor Society
-National Spanish Honor Society
-Probably National Merit Semi-finalist at least
psat:229/240 99percentile</p>

<p>what are my chances? especially if i ED in some schools?</p>

<p>but the thing is i moved from one country to another (USA between Korea) so many times in my life that i never had a lot of time to fully develop something in one place
a lot of my awards are the ones i got in Korea
do you think those will count?</p>

<p>Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth all look to be good shots for you.
Harvard, Princeton, Yale are a reach.</p>

<p>But you need to telll us what you want to study and what scohols are important to you.. the ivies arent always the best options, what are you interested in?</p>

<p>Also, Im not trying to say you're not fit for any of the Ivies. I know that what I said might seem to be kind of useless lol. </p>

<p>For instance, If you want to study engineering go for Upenn (for ivies). Just let us know what you want to do</p>

<p>To echo what sacboi4 said, there are a number of excellent schools beyond the ivy athletic league.</p>

<p>With your strong background in music, you should consider a top quality LAC like [url=<a href="http://www.oberlin.edu/%5DOberlin%5B/url"&gt;http://www.oberlin.edu/]Oberlin[/url&lt;/a&gt;] right in your backyard of Ohio.</p>

<p>Bottom line, cast your net wider than just a few schools and be sure to include safeties.</p>

i was considering engineering and UPenn seemed the best choice

<p>if you develop one particular interest in an extra curricular that is extra ordinary before you send off your application (and maintain or improve your grades) you have a very good chance.</p>

<p>That said, you wouldnt be able to apply Early Decision because that particular EC (whatever it may be) will not be able to be refined before ED.</p>

<p>So I wouldnt do ED and just make up for it with an interesting extra curricular.</p>

<p>It really would take much time. Here;s one now:</p>

<p>Columbus is a nice city, but there are more rough areas right? So why dont you try to phone those schools in the inner city and volunteer to tutor kids once a week in math and science (which you are probably really good at). I doubt they would say no to you and you would be doing something you are good at and is useful.</p>

<p>I would say you have a very very good shot (accepted) if you were to apply ED to Penn SEAS.</p>

well i'm thinking of applying either ED to Duke or UPenn for biomed engineering
that said, which school do you guys think i can get in w/o ED?
or in other words, which school do i have a better chance at Duke or UPenn?</p>
