my chances for UCB statistics

whats up guys

I am so desperate with my transfer and hope to listen to your opinions about my chances of getting into UCB
1.Status: Green Card(Permanent Resident)
2.GPA: 3.81
(Calc 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D: A / Differential Equations: In Progress, Linear Algebra: Planned in Spring / Math Stat: A / English: A- /2 Bs in IGETC / Computer(C++) : one B and one A / 5 Ws)
3.Personal Statement : Well written (Put lots of efforts in it)
4.Extra : Several volunteer works/ short-term internship at a trading company / some part-time jobs including tutoring / served as a Vice president in a volunteer club

BTW, would my multiple Ws influence a lot?

You need a good explanation for the W’s. I successfully transferred to Berkeley with a semester full of W’s, but I had a medical withdrawal that explained it.

My bf and several of his friends in CC successfully transferred for engineering and physics last year. Their GPA’s were higher than yours (3.85 was the lowest one, going up to 4.0). I think you are in the running, but there are no guarantees in life.

@reygun The UC’s do not care about W’s at all; other schools (namely private schools) generally do, however.

W’s will not hurt an application for the UC’s at all, surprisingly.

I think you have a good shot, personally, so long as you complete your prereqs/GE by the end of Spring. @SeoulerStevie

@goldencub I don’t know where you get your information, but UC’s can and do care about W’s. I was told this by a Berkeley transfer counselor who is often on the admissions committee.

@reygun I thought I had read something about W’s not mattering for the UC’s on one of their websites, but I can’t find anything on my phone mentioning how they handle W’s at all. I’ll get back to you if I find a source.

Look at the people admitted on the old admission threads - there were plenty of people admitted with tons of W’s (>10), which leads me to believe that a massive amount of W’s will not negatively affect an application. Also, bearing the holistic admissions process in mind, they understand that one may have a W for any number of reasons. I would like a more definitive answer, so maybe I’ll shoot them an email, or drop by the transfer center.

(I found something on SBCC’s website, I think, that mentioned how UC’s/CSU’s don’t care about W’s at all, but of course that isn’t an authoritative source.)
