my $0.02:
to be more competitive for wharton try to get better (790 or 800) SAT II's
given what you have above:

UPenn Wharton ED - will get deferred probably

UPenn Wharton RD - 35% chance

MIT (Sloan undergrad school of business) - dont know

Cornell CALS (Applied Economics and Management) - accept

Harvard/Princeton (econ) - 35%

NYU Stern - accept

Duke (econ) - accept

UVA (business) - accept

Columbia - dont know

Carnegie Mellon (business) - dunno

Rutgers Pharmacy - dunno

those are complete opinion/gut feeling

uve got strong stats, but as you know, at the most competitive schools its a total crapshoot

Having said that you will get into Stern and UVA i assure u that .

Oh and heres a tip, dont mention NSHSS and stuff like that on ur app, a guy in my school whos like the worst student ever also got an invite. Mention thingsl lik the science/math/debate/club stuff u have done.

thanks and yea, Som1, ive seen the consensus that those awards arent really worth anything...not goin on my app

Looking at my stats, do you think i would have a better shot at doing an ED to penn CAS and enrolling in the economics major? How is the CAS econ major compared to the Wharton econ major? In terms of recruitment for ibanks and other, etc.

Although both CAS econ majors and Wharton students are recruited in relatively large numbers, I believe that Whartonites are generally more recruited.

And (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) the CAS has a higher admittance rate than the Wharton school, so I think you would have a better chance of getting into Penn by applying to CAS if you just want to go to Penn as a whole.

You have good stats! I think Wharton, Harvard/princeton, Columbia, and MIT are reaches (as they are for most people).

yea its easier to get into CAS, some ppl do that and then try to transfer into wharton after their freshman year. This is known as backdooring. Theres a whole thread about this on this forum so check it out.

you do know that UVa is a 2 year B-program right... you can't get into the B-school freshman year.,,,,,,,,,

Backdooring is very very hard. For good reason. A lot of people want to do it, and Wharton has no reason to give a lot of slots for transfers in. You essentially have to organize your course load right away to mirror the stringent Wharton curriculum, get superb grades, maybe get an advisor rec for good measure.

If you have great grades as a CAS Econ major, you will get interviews, but the reality is a good percentage of Wall St. employers will look exclusively at Wharton resumes, especially for the finance intensive jobs.
