I recenty took the ACT in april and got my scores today. My composite score was a 17. Thats a horrible score om currently taking act prep in my school but i dont think its helping me at all. My cumulative gpa so far is a 2.4 im worried that i wont be able to get into UW Whitewater or UW Milwaukee

Im currently a junior

ACT comp. for Whitewater: 20 / 25
ACT comp. for Milwaukee: 19 / 24

I’m not going to kid you and say that your score is perfect, but you’re not too far off from the bottom of this range. I would try to study a bit more, focusing on what you didn’t understand the first time, and retake it before application season rolls around. Statistically, you’re almost guaranteed to improve.

Have you looked into the SAT? I know some people who did very well on one test and not on the other, and that might be the case here depending on your particular skillset. If I may say so, the 25th-75th percentile ranges don’t appear very high; score in the high 400’s or 500’s, and you’re guaranteed to be at least in the middle of accepted students.

The GPA is your last problem; is there any way that you can raise that before next fall? If not, are there any extenuating circumstances that caused it to drop? If it’s the latter, you can always explain that on your application; colleges won’t necessarily forgive low grades, but most will be rather understanding.

tl;dr - it’s not impossible, but it’ll take some work before application season.

I want to go into business related field and im taking AP Econmics next year. Last quarter my gpa was a 2.8. Im going to try my hardest to do really good in that ap class and know im certain that i ca get a 20 on the ACT.

Try the SAT and send that if you do well :)

Anyone else?

You should definitely try having a lot of extracirrulars, a good essay, and a lot of volunteer hours. This can make your GPA and act score less important. Sports could also help a lot. You have a better chance of getting into uw Milwaukee. I’m sure you’ll do fine! :)

Freshman year: Played for JV and Freshman soccer team (starter)

Sophomore: JV (starter)

Junior: Varsity (starter)

Im also hispanic so maybe I have bigger chance getting into since I’m a minority? Im probably one of the few hispanic students in my school that will be attending college. My 2 brothers are in college at the moment. I plan on doing tennis next year and my school requires 30 hours of community service to graduate. I will be taking the next ACT in june im very confident that i can improve my score.

So do you guys think my chances are?

Your chances are certainly better in light of your extracurriculars. I’m not exactly sure about the policies of those two schools, but your status as an URM certainly can’t hurt.

Just work on getting that ACT score & GPA up and I’m sure you’ll be ok. :)

UWI-Whitewater: High match
UWI-Milwaukee: Match

Aim for 20+/1400+ (on the 2400 scale)

Anymore opinions im really worried :(

Try to work as hard as possible to bring up your GPA and test scores. If you still cannot reach the level required, then you may first go to a community college and seek for transfer afterward.
