My chances ... I know i shouldn't but i can help myself ...........

Hey People. I know I shouldn't be asking this but I'm just asking for honest opinions as to whether or I have a realistic chance to be admitted Princeton EA. I've been thinking because I'm and International so I know I'll be at a disadvantage. Any opinions would be great...

I'm from Tasmania which is in Australia.

SAT 1- 1550 (Maths 750, Verbal 800). Doing new one October to include writing

SAT II - 800 Maths, 800 Lit, 790 Pysics.

Rank: 1 out of 221. My school finally worked a rank for me.

Secondary Record? Yeah its pretty much decent. Not sure how GPA works exactly but I pretty much get A's all round. I'll let Princeton work out my GPA for me.

Extra Curricular?

RUGBY- the best game ever ladies and gentlemen. State Club U18's champions, state rep and on all star list at National championships.

State U21 Table Tennis champion (6 years running), U18 Champion. National U16 placed 3rd in championship few years ago.

Piano- State recital, era works U18 winner (2001, 2002, 2004, 2005) as well as LMUS diploma (highest possible diploma availble here)

These are the main ones. I'm going to leave out the ones that don't really mean much.

Pretty much I had the chance to represent my state and school in may national championships for rugby and table tennis but due to a lack of finances ... I only attended rugby cauz the club paid for the expenses. My parents are stingy because they don't really like me playing sports... especially contact ones.

Awards.

Top in State for Maths Specialised, Economics, and Info systems.
Prize in Aus Maths Comp (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004)
Plaque in the Chemistry Quiz (2003, 2004)
Random loads of other awards.

Community Service?

Worked at Nursing Homes on almost all day Saturdays since Y7
Worked every winter holidays for the Salvation Army +
Amnesty Int Coord for Tasmania (not using this because it really is a meaningless role and I did screw up in it a bit)

Work Experience?

Well I work pretty much all my spare time weekends at the local supermarket either at the casheir or stacking boxes since y7. Doesn't pay much but enough for me to spend. Ever since I turned 18 and finished school, I run the supermarket by myself after 7pm to closing time (i close up the shop).

Languages? Profficient in English (duh), and Mandarin (thanks to stepmom)

THANKS
Alex

OI- I know these stats are decent if I were a domestic student but because international admissions is soo compeditive I'm not too sure how I stack up. Would they accept my OZ All star rugby U18 team as a hook? I think it should be one but Princeton definately doesn't have a rugby team so they just might not care ...

Does anyone know what the internationals on last years CC forum had for stats and stuff that got into Princeton???

I really like your application, it's well-rounded (great SAT II's, good grades, good EC's). At this point, make sure your essays are outstanding, and make you pop out from all the other applicants...it's going to be tough for you since you're an international, but definitely give it a shot. You're well within range!

BTW, include most of those EC's that you weren't planning to...just put them lower in your list. It's good to have a semi-long list, especially when the activities at the top are so strong.

Good luck!

I am also wondering about how competitive Princeton is for internationals?
What is the admission rate? And which pool dose an applicant fall in if he goes to a boarding school(with huge financial aid) and comes back to his homecountry for winter and summer breaks, thanks.

If you go to boarding school internationally but are an American citizen whose permanent residence is in the US, then you'll be a domestic applicant. :)

lol, I think I misled you, frozen. I wanted to ask the admission prospect for applicants who are internationals but go to american boarding schools.

lol! I guess you have you answer anyway, then.

But! I think you'll have somewhat of an advantage over other internationals because the contents of your app will be easier to compare with those of domestic students.

I'm only speculating, on the basis of Stanford med's telling me that I'll be at a huge disadvantage if I went to undergrad in the UK, because I'd have to apply as a domestic applicant to grad school and nothing in my app would be comparable to those in other domestic apps.

ok ur getting me depressed..our stats are very similar except mine is much more inferior:(

well done on ur LMUS! my friend practised for like 5 hrs a day for the exam and she still failed...apparently 9 in 10 fail or something...

WOW kudos to you! those stats are amazing! I think you would be one of the best applicants from the Australian pool. I hope you get in because umm wow...

How big is our Australian Pool? Do you guys know how many people actually take the SAT and ilk in AUS? I hope the numbers small ... :)

This application looks good from what I saw last year.

Thanks everyone for your opinions!!! :)

There was a lot of ppl in Melbourne the last time i went. A lot of them were either American/Australian dual citizens or like basketballers wanting to get a scholo in US unis...also a lot of azns...

Even if Amnesty International Coord was a meaningless role, colleges can't possibly know that. If it doesn't confict with your morals, I'd say include it. Students here put things like "Member in Chess Club" as extracurriculars. Being the regional coordinator of ANY activity, even if it's the Tasmanian Tasmania Appreciation Club, stands out.

what are you thinking of putting in your essay?

How darn sexy I am ...

I dunno. I'm still thinking about topics, I could write about the delights of rugby, or the piano, or anything actually. We still have plenty of time so I'm focussed on getting good scores on the new SAT...

yourself?

something to do with politics....amnesty

cool. I'll avoid that topic just we can both stand out ...

yay:D that makes me feel better...although i mite change to yale or harvard EA now

now i'm considering jumping ship as well... erickang just freaks me out cauz he's just soo identical to me yet better academically. harvard and yale EA's look soo much alluring now ...

Yo, Kjoodles.
What the hell man?!
Your C.V. looks awesome.
It's at least as good as mine if not a lot better.
I don't play any sport hard out, just tennis and rugby as a social thing.
Your piano is clearly better than mine, I am working towards ATCL, which I am presuming to be lower than your LMUS, since ATCL is lower than LTCL.
I have no community service: I blame New Zealand for that since nobody does it and there is no real such system/opportunity.
My school marks are crap.
I am positive I'll screw up SAT since I always screw up in exams.

Man, apply, okay?
Regards
Eric
