my chances . . . IB student

It's another what are my chances thread!!

ok, i'm starting to think about what schools i should apply to (saftey, match, and reach), so where do you think i stand with schools like UVA, W&M, harvard, yale, any other ivy league

Female, Alexandria, VA (northern VA)
SAT: 2050 -- i'm going to take them again
SAT II: Math1: 720 -- i'm going to also take 2 more, maybe lit and physics

Course load: most challenging

IB Spanish 2
Journalism 4

Rank: school doesn't rank, but I'm in the top 1% out of 500

SO . . . where do i stand???

You'll have better luck in the "What are my chances?" Thread or Individual schools' threads.

yeah, i already have this in the what are my chances thread, but I was wondering if any other IB students have been accepted to the schools I'm interested in with my similar stats

You can't get a 4.5 if you have Health or PE in your grade. A 4.5 is impossible if the required classes you have to take aren't offered at a higher level. If you take what you like, 4.5 isn't possible, but as long as you're in a high percentile of your grade, you're doing good.

okay this might sound very pessimistic and i dont want to bring your hopes down but i know several people with the same grades, same volunteering (its required for IB, duh) and they are in like every club//play at least one sport trying to get into these schools so i guess now you jsut have to find something that makes you original to kick their asses. good luck!

jsut wondering..where do u do ur ib..wen did u start? is it a help course or program to be in?..just wanting some information on IB!.thnks..im kinda worried about med school my self. please reply

Niro

IB is a high school program. You take college level classes your junior and senior year.. it requires an interview, tests, and a project that you have 10 months to work on [at least at my school] umm its weighted on a 5.0 scale and its really awesome and full of nerds like me and thats about it. I'm worried about med school too... it's really hard to get in!

yah full of nerds!

that is totally false. i know a lot of IB kids in my class that do marching band on the side and still knows how to party.

Lol I was kidding, I'm in IB and I'm probably the least nerdyest person you'll meet. Shesh, yall take things too seriously.

rock on IB normal kid! :]
if i started HS in the US, i would have done the IB diploma...just taking IB on courses that i like

i like to party too lol

Lol yeah but you're freakin KONADIAN! Hahah that's very cool spelling if I may say so myself. and you cant take IB on the courses that you like, you have to take it on ALL of them. I don't party. HA!

oh no, i'm not going for the diploma. at my school they let me take IB courses even if im not a candidate. they give you certificates though, if you take the SL or HL test at the end of your senior year. actually, i like IBs because we talk more in IB and work less than in AP courses.

omg! you live in broomfield? thats like 20 min ride from here! i live in boulder!!!
XD

ohhh yes you dont work less in IB! gosh! OMG! no way!? i LOVE boulder! i used to live there! I'm going to CU for college.. even though its not that great, but its a good start, right?

I heart boulder too. :] CU is a great school if you're coming here for engineering, music, or biology. i think it's a great start, and it's definitely what you make of your college experience, wherever you go. (although my parental units think otherwise...but that's another story)

i find IB courses here more relaxed, critical thinking, talking about things type course, whereas AP is like work work work until the exam time and then you're burnt. of course, the AP i took was APUSH. go figure. :] well nice meeting you...online! lol

Yeah I don't really know what I want to do but IB is so much work and projects and homework and talking and just boo, but I've never been in AP so Idk.. It was nice meeting you too!!.. online.

Theres plenty of non nerdy IBers..my good friend has a 95 in a very challenging IB School near my old house(the ps i used to go b4 leaving for my private school) and shes is nothing close to nerdy shes bright but not nerdy..She has time for a full IB Schedule and her horse Charlie and good friends on the side...Shes happy...and shes amazing she puts most of her effort into Charlie but could deffinetely have a good time

wow! really got off topic here! hehe. one question: why do so many people assume that IBers are bigger nerds than APers??? Oh, and back to my orginal question, what are my chances???

haha, sorry OP. what can I say? we CCers define digression.

i think you're a strong candidate in terms of numbers..but that's not what your schools look for...if you have a "hook" that can lure the adcoms to believing you will do a great good to the school (which I am sure you would, wherever you go), then you might be okay.

from what I can see from your original thread. the ivies are a high reach.

Lizziee... because they are. Lol most of the APers I know aren't into school at all and are only into football and girls and stuff. So if they can pass with B's then AP can't be that hard. But thats just my reasoning. Ehh I think I already told you what I think your chances are but I agree with the Konadian dude for the most part.
