My chances *instate*...help??

ur opinion of my chances

instate
gpa = 3.94weighted (3.25unw)
SATs = 1820 = Math 720, Verbal 580, Writting 520
20% of my class (pretty competitive school)
brother graduated from Chapel Hill 3 years ago (will this help a lot???)
Activities: Job @ a fine dining steakhouse, key club member, national honor society member, yearbook (11th grade), spanish club, sociedad de hispanica (like spanish club but for higher level students, im not hispanic by the way), track (10th grade year only)

im taking 5 ap classes my senior year and im confident my gpa will be atleast 4.1 after first semester too bad that will be too late for applying time. but im 99% sure im gonna do early application anyway.

i don't like my gpa too much and im not feeling so hot about my writting score. And as you can see i don't really stick to all my extra-curricular activities...errr...somebody make me feel better about myself cuz i wanna go to UNC soooo bad!

any recommendations on increasing my chances?

which school did you go to?

your gpa isn't so hot, but that can be improved by taking high level classes your senior year. It will show admissions that you're willing to challenge yourself. Test scores can be used to make up for gpa so I reccommend either taking the SAT I again or take an SAT II. Might as well take the SATII math IIC to get it out of the way. Its not required for admissions but it is looked at if you send them the score.

now for extra-curricular activities and job time spent in it can help. How long have you had your job and wut do you spend your money on. I can't remember if the application asks that, i remember filling something out for college that did though. Also, anyone can be a member of a club, but what the admissions is looking for is what you did in the club, did you hold any office, how long were you in the club and did you win anything with the club. community service is good too.

overall I'd say you have a fair shot at getting in for an in-stater, improve those grades, be active in your clubs and if its not to late run for an office so if you win you can put that on the application.

apply early action and good luck

i go to apex high

i've had my job since august 04...its a very nice job....pays really well and most of the people i work with are 21 or older so i feel really mature. i save most of my money and use the rest for clothing and electronics...im thinkin of getting my manager to right one rec for me

i did key club 9th and 10th grade. i wasn't really the officer but i did do tons of service/community projects and i also helped organize events. i think its too late to be an officer of a club but i can try spanish club. spanish club seems slack but it involves spanish and im taking that subject very seriously

and yeah ur right...my senior classes are going to be challenging and honestly think i will do very good in them...

ap enviromental (i will probably get an A)
ap psychology (probably A)
ap calc (probably B)
ap calc part 2 (probably B)
ap spanish (probably A or B idk)
honors spanish 5 (A or B idk)
honors phsyics (probably B)
honors english (i'll work extra hard for an A)

by the way i took AP Biology and I think i'm very strong in it. does that mean i should take the SATII biology or whatever?

no, you dont' have to take the SAT II biology

did you take the AP tests?

nope i didn't take the ap test, im slack

haha, thats alright, AP tests are stupid (CLEP tests are better ;) and you still get credits if you score high enough)

well anyways, the only good SAT II to take is the SAT II math IIC because they use that for placement in a math class. I took it before my senior year so I had it to send to admissions when I applied. Don't take the SAT II biology, i don't think they use it for bio placement, i think you would have to take carolina's bio placement test. so don't take anything you don't need. I really recommend applying early action so that means you only have enough time to take one more test (the october test).

ew i signed up for princetonreview SAT classes. i better get a 200 point improvement (that would make it 2,020)

**** okay u guys somebody just told me something cuz they worked with admissions ppl a while ago. they said UNC accepts on a point scale and basically u need 15 points to get in. and i heard being a minority gives u 6 points and being white gives u 0. im a minority but i usually put white but after hearing that i think i'll change that

Dude, you shouldn't be having identity issues this late in life.

lol i look white but im not. but do u think it will help a lot like other ppl have said? 6 points is a lot

go ahead, its no big deal. I know a guy who's parents are from South Africia, the guy is white. He put on the application that he was African American, and he wasn't technically lying.

No im not afraid about putting it down. my questions was do you think it will be a benefit to do that??? is it true minorities get 6 points on the point system for admission

yes, its called affirmative action

Whether you are white or black, if you are from any African nation, you are NOT African-American. So yes, he was lying. African-American is an American citizen who has African ancestry.

im not black but im from northern africa, like tunisia, algeria, egypt, morocco

If you and your family lived in Africa , and have emigrated to the U.S. in the last several years, I don't believe that you are considered African American. That designation is very specific, and designed to help a particular category of people.

I was born in the Asian part of Russia. I don't consider myself an Asian-American.

ok hello i haven't lived there. im middle eastern but im from northern africa and im not putting asian b/c thats not me. and im not putting other cuz i don't like that

What did your brother put on his forms?
