GPA: 3.2 (it will be a bit higher soon because there is an error in my transcript)

ACT: Composite-28 (english 27, reading 30, math 27, science 27), Writing - 10/12

I've taken Honors Earth Science, Honors American Literature & Comp, accelerated math since 7th grade, Honors World Lit & Comp, AP European History (I got a 3 on the AP test which is 8 credits @ MSU), AP Psychology (5 on the AP test, I think 4 credits @ MSU)

My senior year I'm taking AP Statistics, AP World History, AP English Lit, Geology (for college credit), Spanish III, Economics, and a ceramics class.

I played tennis for three years, i've been playing the piano since i was seven, part of the InterAct club (volunteer group), summer job where students run a business, and ski club since sixth grade.

I also participated in Girls State this summer at MSU for a week. Only 300 girls from the state of Michigan were selected to go.

OH yeah, and I'm an in-state girl and my parents both graduated from here if that helps at all.

I'd realllllllllly like to go to James Madison! Tell me what you think regarding my chances.

I def. think you can get in for sure! But you may want a back up school just in case. Also, apply really early. As soon as the app comes out for this year, which I think is in late August, start filling it out and get it in! Especially because a lot of people want to go to James Madison but I don’t think you’ll have any trouble getting in. Even if you didn’t get in for some reason, they let a lot of people in for the Spring term. Good luck!

thanks! i’m so so so stressed that I won’t get in because of my low GPA. I know my ACT is on the high side so I’m hoping that’ll make up for it. It just really sucks because as much as I’d like to go out of state for a back up school, it’s just too expensive and there aren’t really any other schools in MI i’d like to go to besides MSU.

well, i got in early in october last year and my gpa was like a 3.1 i think so don’t worry about it. i had a 26 act and yours is higher so u have a better chance than i did. i also only had one honors and 3 APs. and i had extracurriculars too like you do but you def had more than i did. so no worries i got in and so can you for sure trust me don’t stress just turn in ur app early and make sure u have a good essay! i think MSU is a school that truly wants to give everyone a chance, they aren’t pretentious at all.

ahhh thanks… that’s exactly what i needed to hear. My counselor at school is telling me i won’t get in, which quite frankly i don’t think he knows what he’s talking about. I think the app is coming out soon so i’ll definitely start working on it as soon as i can.

Your GPA is a little lower than they’d like but everything else looks good so your chances are pretty good. I would think the only questions is whether they’re going to want to see your seventh semester grades before making a decision.

I agree with res.

You need to apply early and then do really well your 7th semester.

Best of luck :)!

I think your chances are pretty good (agree with romani/res). Just make sure to keep your grades up (think 3.5 GPA first semester of senior year) and then I think you’ll more than likely be able to get in.

yeah i’m planning on trying really hard. but if they do want to look at my grades senior year (and they’re decent) will they for sure let me in? or is it more like a waiting list?

It would not be like a waiting list. If they think your grades are on the fence, they look at 7th semester grades to get a better sense of the trend. If 7th semester grades are good, then they let you in. They may let you in before then because your ACT score is good.

yeah, hopefully my ACT well make up for my grades. i[m retaking it in september, though. so if i get a 29 or 30 how would you say my chances would be?

It really won’t help that much.

Another question- do you know your class rank? A 3.2 would have been OK at my high school, but at others it might be a top 15% or something GPA.

well… it really is just average at my school. however, probably only a handful of other kids have taken harder classes than i have. whatever though.

i also got a letter in the mail yesterday that i was selected to be part of the early notification program… so i’d know by nov. 16. they said they were impressed with my academic performance. hopefully that means they’re going to accept me.

Usually that means you’re in. However, I have been told that it goes off of your ACT, so you never know. I do know someone who got that letter (low 30s ACT) but had a low 3.2(?) GPA and was ultimately not accepted.

that’s just great.

i just applied.

my GPA ended up being a 3.3 after the mistakes were taken care of.

i took the ACT again in September and got a 28 again (31 English, 30 Math, 26 Science, 24 Reading) BUT i scored one point higher on the writing (11 out of 12)

i currently have As in all my senior classes ( ap stats, ap world his, spanish iii, creative writing, and ap lit)

hopefully everything goes well.

Still sounds good. You applied early, too.

Best of luck to you! Let us know how it goes :)

i checked my status and i have a PID. does that mean something? i heard on here that PIDs mean something. it says they’re still reviewing my application though.

allyonb92…same here. but I had a PID since like forever.
