my chances of cornell, columbia, or nyu through heop!!! help =[

im currently in a highly competitive highschool

my gpa 83

sat- 1580

ec-

volunteering at a hospital
after school clubs (2 of them)
volunteering as a tutor

family income around 20k

thanks

Probably no chance at any of them… I really hate to say it. =/ Try adding some more ECs (although if you’re already a senior, that might not help as much) and raising your GPA and test scores?

Chance me, please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1217189-chances-pomona-other-selective-lacs.html</a></p>

really =/? what do they look for?

For the easiest of those schools to get into you would need around a 2000 SAT at least for NYU and around a 2200 for the other two schools. You would need at least over a 4.0 weighted gpa higher for Columbia and Cornell. Besides that being in clubs isn’t enough; colleges want you to be actively involved (ie you can tell them what you did in the club) and preferably in a leadership position in a club. You would also look better if you were involved in a varsity sport.

what about the heop program?

The HEOP program is just supplemental. It doesn’t give you a better chance. You still need to get into the college academically.

Very low to impossible chance. SAT very low, GPA low, and no extracurriculars such as major clubs (what are you in?), leaderships, etc.

Sorry to sound harsh, but these schools are competitive.

sorry bud, but to be honest, I give you a 0% chance. Check out the cc threads on admissions at those schools to see what kinds of things people are doing to get into those schools

what if my sat is raised to 2000?

what grade are you? if youre a senior, you may want to consider going to a lesser college and transferring

People get rejected at these schools with 2400 SATs… getting it up to 2000 won’t help.

well i dunno, NYUs avg is only 2050

Right, but you really need a lot above the average if you don’t have any ECs to even be considered.

this is true, btw hate to be “that guy” but chance me por favor http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1219166-chance-cornell-communications-major.html</a></p>

I’d say you DO have a chance at NYU, but it is rather small. The other schools, you probably shouldn’t try to even apply for. Sorry, but it would just be a waste of time and money.

yea im with him, nothing wrong with going to an average college, working hard, and transferring though

but i wanted to apply thro heop…im really confused now. how does heop work???

HEOP = supplemental. You apply normally, send in everything normally, and send in a FAFSA. If you are accepted to the college (note: you will need to get accepted normally - this isn’t a separate admissions process, which is why your grades won’t help you) - once accepted, and if you qualify for HEOP based on the FAFSA income, you will be given the financial benefits.

Simply put, you are treated as a regular student for academic admissions.

Apply where you want to, but I’m not entirely sure you’ll be accepted to these schools … If you get your SAT up, you may have a chance at NYU! Consider looking at slightly easier schools?? Maybe Fordham (GPA is a little low for it though), CUNY, The City College of New York, College of Saint Rose, Marist, SUNY, and some other schools! Good luck!

Your extracurricular activities are not particularly impressive, neither is your SAT score or GPA. I’m sorry, but I must be blunt. (but don’t worry, my GPA is pretty bad as well) NYU is a possibility, though, if you raise your SAT score by 300 points. It is more lenient than Columbia and Cornell.

Get straight A+'s this semester. I don’t know if the schools you mentioned use your senior grades in their evaluation, but several schools I looked into do.

And also, what TYPES of classes are you taking? AP? Honors?

hi i received my recent sat score and i got a 1960. what are my chances now?
