My chances of getting in?

I am going to be a junior next year and wanna see what you all think about my chances of getting into Ohio State.

I have a 4.3 G.P.A. With all honors/advanced classes, and two AP’s. When I graduate I’ll have 4 AP’s. I play baseball, am in honor society, and key club. I also am 2nd in my class. Here’s what I’m worried about. I took the Plan, or the practice ACT and got an 18!! What u think?

Your other stats are great, but unless you have other hooks (first gen college, ethnicity) then you need to get that ACT up to at least a 25 (i know it was only the PLAN) IMO. The middle 50 percent of students have about 27 to 30 ACTs according to college board, and I don’t think too many with scores under 22 get into main campus. If it is the ACT format, try the SAT, otherwise try using an ACT review book or other help services if they are available.

Would schools overlook a lower ACT with a high G.P.A. ?

that is seemingly better than low gpa high act based of my experience

colleges tend to overlook GPA, as it is not too useful anymore due to high school GPA inflation across the country. rather, admissions DOES focus on your standardized test scores (i.e. ACT/SAT) and also your class rank, but not necessarily your GPA alone, as it varies from school to school.

What do colleges think when they see high GPA but low ACT?

^ a good student that turns in all their homework, does extra credit and maybe comes from a hs with grade inflation…not really sure what that means though. :)

A good student that does extra credit? What you’re trying to say is that I don’t actually earn my straight A’s in advanced classes? ^^^ ya ok.

@ Pavi8509: Most competitive universities know the reputation of your high school (especially if you go to a private HS). They should have a good idea how difficult the honors/advanced courses offered at your high school. If they don’t, the only way that they can compare you to other applicants is your ACT or SAT scores. A score of 18 is low. At OSU, ACT scores of the mid 50s is 25-30. Since you are only a sophmore, you will have an opportunity to build on this. Do lots of practice test or even take a review course. You got time so keep working hard. Good luck.

Pavi, I don’t doubt that you obviously work hard in school and are successful, but an ACT of 18 would severely limit your options, IMO.

Test scores aren’t everything. I have seen a lot of kids with low class rank get 30s or higher on ACTs, but from my own experience, I rarely see kids at the top of the class get anything below a 28. I am not tryin to be blunt, but others are going to question your GPA and other stats if that ACT holds, whether that’s right or wrong.

Let’s remember I got an 18 on the PLAN, which is out of 32 not 36.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you. A true act score of 18 with a 4.0 looks strange. I doubt you will get that, it was the plan. Plus you are still a sophomore right? Maybe it was just a bad day. :)

Some of my daughters friends have high gpa and low act. Many people apply to osu from her school. The lowest act score they accepted was a 25 and the girl had an uw gpa of 4.0. Other people that applied with lower act scores and high gpa’s got denied…well, they would have to attend a regional campus.

I think osu takes standardized tests very seriously.

Pavi, plan doesnt mean anything…i got a low score on it, and ended up getting a 29 act

Thanks guys, I’ve just been stressed because i’m well aware it’s a low score.
