My Chances of Getting In

I was wondering what my chances were of getting into UCSB’s school of engineering Computer Science major and hope that someone could try to give it a guess.

SAT score - 1440
UC GPA - 4.3

Essays - I worked very hard on them (maybe 40hrs each) and think they turned out nice.

AP’s:
Comp Sci Principles - 3
AP Lang - 3
Comp Sci A - 4

Senior Year AP’s:
AP MacroEcon -
AP Gov -
AP Calc AB -
AP Lit -
AP Physics C Mech -

Extra curriculars -

Work part - time at a doctor’s office working on computer programs
Played water polo for a few years
In coding/robotics/hiking club for 2 years now
I play the ukulele

Tbh I have no idea how to write this to make my extracurricular activities sound interesting, they way I write it just is bland.

My letter of recommendations are from teachers that know me well and put a lot of effort into the writing, so they’re probably good.

Anyways, please try to give a general estimate on the chance of me getting into UCSB school of engineering please. Thanks

You are a competitive applicant but definitely no guarantees since CS has a low acceptance rate. LOR’s are not considered by UCSB in their application review.

Your posted UC GPA is capped weighted or fully weighted? AP CS scores will not help your chances. SAT subject tests Math 2 and a Science?

A higher SAT score will definitely help.

Best of luck and apply widely for CS.

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCSB: 4.16

2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles
UCSB:  1280-1520

I’m going to take the Math Level II in a few days, but is a science subject test important? Also, if I haven’t signed up for the SAT by now, do I still have time to take it before UC Applications?

It’s a safety for you.

SAT 2 subject tests are recommended but if you want to be competitive, you should make an effort to take them. You have until the December sitting to submit your scores. Disregard the other posters conclusion on your chances. It is a Match not a safety. A. Safety is guaranteed admission which UCSB is not.

My ECs are similar to yours and I got in to computer engineering at ucsb. GL
