My Chances of Getting into a Competitive 7 or 8 Year BS/MD Program?

Hey guys!

So I am a rising junior in high school and I am aiming to get into a competitive 7-8 year bs/md program such as that of Johns Hopkins. My school doesnt give a gpa on a 4.0 scale but I have a weighted gpa thus far thats close to 103 and unweighted gpa thus far thats about 99. I have taken Honors Chem, Honors Physics, AP Physics 1, and I will be taking Honors Biology, AP Chem and AP Enviro Science Junior Year and then AP Biology senior year (yeah ik my school offers honors biology junior year instead of freshman year lol). In terms of standardized tests other than the SAT, I will be taking the AP exams for Bio, Enviro and Chem ofc, SAT Biology Molecular, SAT Math Level 2, and SAT Chemistry.
In terms of my EC’s, I am in my high schools FIRST Robotics club in which I am the Secretary, FBLA in which I am the Treasurer, Franklin Township Youth Council in which I am the Co-Committee Head of the Education Committee, and a local Taekwondo school in which I am a black belt instructor in. I am really worried that I have not done anything directly related to the medical field so I have taken a honors biology course out of school for enrichment purposes through Johns Hopkins CTY which I will be finishing up this summer and also I am attending this mini oncology camp this summer as well. I will register starting this fall to do volunteering at a local hospital for 75+ hours, join my high school American Red Cross Club for junior year onwards, and apply for a couple of camps related to the medical field the following summer(2016 year).

Is what I am doing good? Not enough? Or too much? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you guys so much in advance.

Thanks,
Rohit

I think your grades are awesome and your EC’s are great. The only thing I would say to do is try to shadow a doctor or try to do some research…and make sure you apply to a bunch of direct med’s, not just the top ones. You never really know for sure with these things. I’m aiming for the same thing as you. Good luck.

Alright thank you so much @ilovemonkeys123. I am planning on either applying to the NJ Governor’s School of Sciences summer program and if i dont get into that (its really competitive), I will do some university research program. But for doctor shadowing how can I apply?

Doctor shadowing is easiest to get if you know a doctor that is willing to take you in. You can always try asking your own doctor though or calling volunteer services at your local hospital/clinic. I’m still looking for someone to shadow as well.
