If you reach the automatic admission threshold, then it becomes an admission safety (for the school, not necessarily your intended major). Otherwise, consider it a reach.
Of course, you also need to be able to afford the net price to attend.
You need a 1360 on the new SAT to gain Academic Admit status:
Applicants qualify for automatic academic admission (but not necessarily to the major of choice), if they:
successfully complete Texas A&M’s required coursework, and rank in the top quarter of their graduating class on or before the application deadline, and meet test score minimums
New SAT:
Total score of at least a 1360 with at least:
620 Math; and
660 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW)
ACT:
Composite score of at least 30 with at least:
27 Math; and
27 English
If you don’t get automatic admit thru test scores, it would be very difficult. TAMU doesn’t consider race much but they will look T your EC, leadership ability, and essays. Try ACT?! Our son didn’t do too well on SAT (1330) but got 36 on ACT English and Science and 34 composite.
Minimum is 1380 total, with at least 620 in Math and 660 in Reading. Please note that a 1280 (620+660), will not cut it because the total has to be at least 1380.
However, once you get Academic Admit, your EC’s and schedule rigor rating should be enough.
