My chances of getting into a top school.

Good evening everyone. I’m sorry you guys must get a lot of these “what are my chances” questions but I’m kinda worried as of right now.

So anyway, I recently finished my second semester of sophomore year which means this is the summer before my junior year starts. As of right now (final grades for the second semester haven’t been posted) I have a 3.4 GPA (Ik, not great) and assuming I do as well as I think I did during finals, that GPA might increase slightly.
I took the AP world exam a few weeks ago and that doesn’t affect my GPA but I’m planning to take AP Euro next year as one of my classes along which my school offers so how much of a bump would that be for my GPA? I’ll also be doing ACT prep this summer to make sure I can get a top score.
As for extracurriculars, I tutor for a tutoring agency once a week during the school year, I’m going to be participating in a summer law institute this summer and as for in school clubs I’m the secretary of my school’s BSA. I also participated in NanoWrimo this year and have published a book, though I’m not sure if that changes anything. I’m planning to start a club with my friends next year that will be hopefully assembling students to help those in our community who need help translating documents or other things into English.

I’m planning to have stellar grades during my junior year but I’m not sure how much that will increase my 3.4 GPA and whether I’ll be able to get at least a 3.9 by the time I graduate. Of course I’ll be taking AP classes throughout the rest of my school career but I’m also taking some pretty challenging courses. I’m interested in the law and although I’m not expecting Harvard or Yale, I would like to get into one of the top law schools in the country. Does it look like I have a shot ?

Thank you and sorry for the long note.

Your chances of getting into a top law school depend much more on what you do in college than what you do in high school. You can get into a top law school from any reputable university if your GPA and your LSAT score is high. If you do community service, and show leadership during college, you further increase your chances.

The best thing you can do now is learn how to learn. Figure out what trips you up and what you need to do to consistently get excellent grades in college.

Thank you for the reply !
