My chances of getting into Cornell

Hi I am going into my senior year of high school at Brooklyn Technical HS in NYC. I was wondering if I do early decision for Cornell what my chances would be to get in.

GPA:94.83
SAT
Math: 780
Reading: 640
Writing: 660
SAT II
Chemistry: 720
Biology: 640
Math I: 680
Math II: 610
AP
Chemistry: 4
Biology: 5
Calculus AB: 5
World History: 3
EC
In school I was in the National Honors Society, Chess Club, and Aerospace Club. Over the summer I volunteered at a hospital as a Patient Escort for 3 years and have 350 hours of volunteer. I also did this Baruch Summer Leadership Academy for Pre-med.

What college at Cornell? Arts, CALS or Engineering (all work as potential pre-med).

the arts and science college

SAT Subject Test scores are slightly low, as are your reading and writing sections on the SAT. However, your ECs are good and show dedication. You have a decent chance. Work hard on your essays.

I’m pretty sure that Cornell doesn’t consider the writing section – so with a 1520, the SAT looks fine (to me at least). The SAT II maybe a bit weak – the Math Level II is suprising considering the 5 on the AB.

Overall – it’s certainly worth your applying

By the way – you may at least want to look into CALS – tuition is much lower in-state than Arts.

^1420.

Retake math II, work on time management. Few ECs, but at least they’re worthwhile and impressive. SAT is acceptable but not exemplary, you may want to retake it. Also, have you tried the ACT?

I am going to retake the SAT in October. If I don’t get into Cornell in ED should I reapply during the regular decision if I retake the Math II subject test and bio in November.

Hey! Cornell accepts almost 1/3 of the ED applicants! I’d work hard and get your CR score up, but I don’t think that’s necessary! I think you have a good chance! Best of luck!

I am just worried that I do not have enough EC…

any more suggestions?

Most colleges say that it isn’t so much the amount of ECs but the devotion to each of them! And the summer program proves that you are devoted to furthering your education! Don’t worry! And PLEASE chance me back =)

ok and Cornell wants a really strong essay right?

Cornell and every other school that you apply to wants a strong essay.

I’m pretty sure that if you apply ED, there are three possible outcomes. Accept, Reject and Consider as Part of RD. Double check it, but I don’t think it’s necessary to reapply RD.

In ED how much of a better chance that someone will get in?

It’s not necessary nor allowed for you to reapply during regular admissions.

Your application is fairly standard. Everything’s okay but just okay. Nothing really stands out. I think you probably have an average chance if you apply Cornell ED (average meaning Cornell’s ED acceptance rate of 1/3).

Any advice on writing an outstanding essay?

Looking at the GPA, SAT, and EC of other people are making me feel depressed…

Any more suggestions or chances?

I’m in the process of transferring and Cornell is the school I would love to go to. My advice, just try to convey to them your genuine self. The stats will speak for themselves but the essay is a conduit for talking about you because thats what this is all about. You’ve gotta show the best qualities of you, and even if that came through trial and error - overcoming failure or hardships creates character. Hope this helps.

How much does the SAT II count in making a decision of whether to except the applicant or not?
