I'm very interested in architecture, and will apply to Cincinnati's architecture program in their DAAP college later this year.

Unweighted GPA of 4.0 (straight A's in all of my classes throughout my entire high school career, with as many honors classes as I could take, and some AP's in there too).

My extracurriculars: marching band for 2 years, symphonic band for 2 years, tennis team, NHS, a member of a somewhat selective local youth philanthropy group. I have 2 leadership positions: secretary of Interact Club and founder/president of a new club at my high school.

ACT: Composite score 27, from the December 12 test date, which is a very early test date. I will take the ACT at least once more at the mandatory test date at my high school. This is the stat I am most concerned about. Notwithstanding the future test scores that may be higher, what are my chances of admission into DAAP's architecture program with the score I have right now? What should I aim/hope for in future test dates?

Thank you, everyone, for your advice, info, and help! It is much appreciated!

Thanks for the link, beastman. The class profile for the architecture program based on the middle 50% of the 2009 entering freshman class states that GPA’s (unweighted, I’m assuming) were 3.736-4.000, average class rank was top 12.8%, and ACT scores were 28-31. I’m almost positive in that a 4.0 GPA (unweighted) is much more rare than a 31 on the ACT.

Anyway, given my situation, how “safe” (couldn’t think of a better word, ugh) do you think my stats are for admission into the architecture program? Also, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at UC told me that, generally, the required ACT score is between a 26-30 for the DAAP.

I would bet that your chances are very good. I remember hearing an admission officer note that the higher the class rank and GPA, the lower the ACT/SAT can be. With a 4.0, I would bet you would be a “shoe-in.”

OP, for what it’s worth, my daughter was accepted into the DAAP architecture program last year. Here are her stats (we are out-of-state if that makes a difference):

Thanks for the info! This makes me feel a lot better. I plan on taking the ACT at least once more, but I definitely feel confident with the score I have now. Anyone know if admissions puts a lot of weight on the writing (essay) of the ACT? I got a 7 on that, and I feel that it was poorly scored by ACT.

By the way, does anyone know of a good way to chat/communicate with students in the DAAP and architecture programs? I plan on using Bearcat Chat, which is apparently a chat room with students and faculty, but it’s only on twice a month. Any other ways?
