Alright, so I'm going into my senior year (yay!!!) and I'm getting ready to start applying into college. My main choice is Georgia Tech and my back up is UGA (I'm in state). I really need help knowing my chances on getting into tech because its freaking me out!

My current GPA:
unweighted- 3.4 (yeah, not the best, people weren't kidding when they said that your junior year was your hardest, because it killed me :/ )
Weighted- 90.67

By the end of my senior year I would have taken 9 AP Courses
-AP Psych
-AP World
-AP Biology
-AP Microeconomics
-AP Lang
-AP Lit
-AP Gov
-AP Physics
-AP Calculus BC

My SAT was a 1900
My extracurriculars are:
-BETA club
-Science Club
-Math Club
-FBLA
-DECA
-Spanish Club
-Student Council
-Volleyball Manager (not really an extracurricular, but it was fun haha)
-Piano and Guitar

Volunteer:
Aviation center

Awards:
FBLA: Future and Business Award

I'm in state if that helps. And I was considering doing GA Techs October 15th early action deadline which would tell me whether I could be deferred, wait listed, or accepted.

But with all that said, please give ,e am idea of where I stand. I'll appreciate it very much, thank you

P.S. If it helps if I post my classes throughout the years just tell me!

Bump for someone to actually reply…

UGA is not your backup… I, as well as many others, had higher stats than you and got waitlisted by UGA.
Sorry for the wakeup call, lol.

Anyway, what’d you get on the math section of the SAT?
Are you black, white, Indian, what?
These will make or break you for tech. If you got a 700+ on the math section and you’re black, you’ll have a decent chance… If not, low chance.

Your SAT score is on the lower side along with your GPA, so I would take the SAT again to get that higher and secure an acceptance. Your GPA probably won’t change much throughout senior year. My friend who will be a freshman at Tech this fall had a 3.8 GPA and an SAT score of 1960 and he got accepted early action.

I’m black, for math I got a 710

Then you have a decent shot.

But apply early to both UGA and GA Tech… I can’t stress this enough. I saw people with stats higher than those who got admitted in the EA round get waitlisted in the RD round.

But you could very well get waitlisted at both schools, so apply to another school as well.
I’d suggest Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University, or Southern Polytechnic State University.
You’re pretty much sure to get into those schools, and I think you’d do fine in all… Particularly SPSU – it’s STEM-focused.

Is that your GT GPA? GT has their own way to figure your GPA. That is the GPA that matters. So calculate your GPA the GT way. Your GPA may be higher. And let us know what it is.

Also did you take the ACT? GT super super scores so if you can get a higher score on a section of the ACT they will count that.

Have you taken any SAT subject tests? If you did and they are decent scores they could help. Do you have any AP test scores?

I take my ACT on September 3rd and I’m planning on taking my SAT II Subject tests for Math 1 and 2 on November 2nd and GA Tech will accept those scores for early action deadline since its through the end of November

And I will do my GA Tech GPA in a sec. Let me go add everything up

I honestly don’t see you getting into GT- your SAT is well-below average and your GPA is bottom 5%. UGA you have a better shot but it’s definitely not a backup for you

^ I think we need to see his GT GPA. It may be a lot higher. But yes he needs to get a higher score on the SAT and/or ACT.

You should definitely apply to both Georgia Tech and UGA! When you apply to Tech admissions looks at SAT/ACT, GPA/Rigor of Curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the essay. The averages for the class of 2013 were 2150 for the SAT, 32 for ACT, and 3.995 GPA. SAT Subject Tests are optional for Tech and they do not really look at them so they dont post averages for those. Never let the averages that schools post intimidate you when applying. If you are interested in that school (especially Tech) then you should apply! You never know what admissions might see in your application!

Thank you vey much for that plus I just looked at my new SAT scores for June 8th and this time I got a 2010, so I can take it a third and final time on October 5th since it’ll still be accepted by GA Tech and UGA

Any applicant, black or white, with a 700+ math score on the SAT has a chance. Your comment is misleading.
What are my chances guys?
I know they superscore the ACT and SAT using their conversion table
SAT CR = ACT E = 30/36
SAT M = ACT M = 35/30
SAT W = ACT E/W = 660/800
Thats about 2100 out of 2400 according to the conversion table.
Im OOS and I have unique Community Service ECs and I have done internships with several companies and 1 of them was in Spain. (I’m an Indian) My school GPA is A1 which is anything above 91%
Please chance me! Thanks!
