My chances of getting into Harvard or Princeton?

I got deferred by those two to regular decision.
34 ACT
800 Math 2 Subject
780 Physics
My GPA is a bit low for them, 3.7 UW and 4.2 W
Some average extracurriculars and volunteers plus President of Science Club
Chances??

The ACT score is decent, but doesn’t stand out.
The SAT II scores are very good.
The GPA is a big, big problem. The average unweighted GPA at Harvard is something like 3.98.
If your extracurriculars and volunteering are indeed average, as you say, then I can’t say I see your chances being very high.

Ultimately, you have your best shot when applying early action, and almost all applicants are deferred EA, so if you didn’t get in your chances aren’t great.

Also: I’m 99% sure that both Harvard and Princeton have single choice early action policies-I don’t see how you could have applied to both early action (I’m assuming this is what you did, as you say you were “deferred…to regular decision”). Please explain.

I don’t know if these colleges do in fact share information on EA applicants to ensure that these applicants are respecting the single-choice policies, but if they do and you applied to both EA, that may well be the reason you were deferred at both.

  1. You were not allowed to apply SCEA to both Harvard and Princeton. You broke their rules - I would imagine if either college discovered this, they would no longer consider your application. Some might argue that the only ethical thing for you to do at this point would be to withdraw both applications.

  2. Based on these stats, and the other threads you’ve created so far (one of which includes a full essay), I honestly don’t think you have a chance at either Harvard or Princeton, unless you possess some incredible talent that you have not exhibited here.

They didn’t say that I couldn’t apply to other universities in early action and the commonapp didn’t restrict it. Oh well, not it’s considered regular decision. Also, BldrDad I didn’t know people on here liked to go snooping around other people’s accounts. I need to find a way to hide that.

It is clearly laid out in the rules:

https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/apply/application-timeline/restrictive-early-action

http://admission.princeton.edu/applyingforadmission/single-choice-early-action

The commonapplication forbids people to apply to two colleges that are restrictive action. I thought that 'd be restricted from applying to both Princeton and Harvard if that was the case.

Following up on my last response - if you really did apply to both Harvard and Princeton SCEA, you should be aware of the potential consequences of violating this agreement if you are accepted to Harvard

“Students applying to Harvard under the Early Action program are not permitted to apply early elsewhere in the fall under Single Choice Early Action or Early Decision programs. Harvard will rescind any offer of admission to a student who does so.” (from http://scholar.harvard.edu/files/harvard-fy_1.pdf)

If Harvard discovers this violation in the future - even after you earn a degree - retroactively rescinding your offer of admission would mean Harvard rescinds any degree you have earned.

I suspect that Princeton has similar policies - I’ll leave it up to others to investigate this.

My recommendation at this point would be for you to contact both colleges and confess to violating their rules and ask that they withdraw your application from consideration. If you are an exceptional candidate, perhaps they will decide to overlook the transgression.

Regarding “snooping around other people’s accounts” - everything you post here is public, as is everything I have posted. If you start a thread to ask your chances and provide minimal information, you can expect other members to take a look at what else you have shared in order to make a more accurate assessment.

If you don’t like that, I would suggest you stop posting in these forums.

I’ve never seen a student get in to the top name schools on a few high stats alone. They have too many quality students to choose from.

You were deferred so you dodged a bullet but don’t play dumb. They were REA and you tried to sneak past their very clear rules.

OP posted on another forum asking how to delete a post. So I doubt we’ll get a response from OP on this thread.

You just blackballed your entire school, especially the GC’s office. How can someone with a caliber of Ivy League (applicant at least) fail to look at the very detailed AND delineated rule of applying?

IF you do not get caught, I sincerely hope that you do not obtain admission to either school.

Does anyone in here watch suits? Because you guys are definitely the lewis’ of this site.

Your chances look bleak and you already know that. I don’t understand why all these people submit those ‘What are my chances?’ posts when they all end up ignoring the realistic answers anyway. And by the way, if you have any common sense at all, you will delete this post and any evidence that exists revealing that you applied SCEA to both Harvard and Princeton.

You can’t delete posts, so common sense is irrelevant.
