-Male from Arkansas
Class rank: Top 20% (public high school; 600 kids)
Unweighted GPA: 3.20
Weighted GPA: 3.30
3 AP's taken: Physics, Computer Science, and Stat (I will only send my Stat score, which I got a 4 on)
SAT: 2050 (700 Math)
EC's: I was in a few clubs (held no positions though, lol), played high school baseball, spent a lot of time taking care of my special needs little brother, babysitting, a little volunteer work, no work experience (I couldn't get a job because of my little brother).
Essay: I will put a lot of time into my essay, I've read books giving tips on how to avoid 'dry' and 'overused' topics, and I am sure my essay will be at least in the top 5% of, I guess, the nation.

It might also be worth noting that I have an upward trend in my grades. My freshman year I had about a 3.30. And then my sophomore year was a joke with less than a 2.80. My junior year was better, at around a 3.30. And my senior year will be better than a 3.70.

I made a B and A in AP Physics, two A's in Physical Science (in the 9th grade), an A and C in AP Computer Science, and I've taken honors math courses since the 8th grade.

And this is probably important. I have NOT taken chemistry before. Purdue's website says chemistry is 'required'...

everyone has a chance. your standardized testing scores are defintely within range. unfortunately i dont believe every thing else is quite up to par for what Purdue expects. Definitely apply. you never know...

I'm guessing Purdue's engineering program is significantly more difficult to get into than everything else?

...Because Purdue's average GPA is 3.52 or so? And their ACT score range is something like 23-29, so.....

Also, I went to collegedata.com and looked at Purdue's admission tacker and searched by applicants who have been either 'accepted' or 'rejected'. I searched by lowest GPA, and I found students with stats like 2.70 GPA and 27 ACT get in.

How could a 2.70 and 27 ACT get in if I'm not guaranteed with my stats?

So, basically, their engineering program is much harder to get into?

Uh, if chemistry is required then I don't see how you could get in. Georgia Tech also requires Chemistry. I had a friend who accidentally forgot to put her chemistry course on the transcript, and Tech called her and she had to mail in a bunch of forms and stuff. Purdue technically has the right to downright revoke your application because you don't meet the engineering requirements to even apply.

Of course, I'm not too familiar with teh school as a whole. Maybe they do make exceptions.

When I was in high school, Purdue's application process seemed to be pretty lenient (meaning that they heavily consider gpa and SAT scores).

I applied to Purdue on January 2004, but my application package was lost in mail. I noticed this problem on April or May... so I called them to see what could be done. They told me to e-mail my gpa and SAT scores and then fax them my advisors letter and signature to prove that the information was correct. I was accepted shortly after (3 days?).

You have a rock solid SAT score with a "good" GPA. I think your chances are pretty good.

hey i have an act score of 29. 4.0 gpa. i am also a national level athlete. will i get into northeastern or purdue or even georgia tech? i want to pursue electrical engineering.

OP’s GPA is low while the SAT is within the range for Purdue Engineering. It is not particularly difficult to get into Purdue, it is harder to stay in. There are many drop out from it every year. They tend to admit more students so that they are pick the better one afterward.

Guys please chance me! Responses appreciated.
