for as long as i can remember, ucf has been my dream school. i have worked so hard to look good on my application but something i can’t get over are my sat and act scores.
my acedemics are okay? I have a weighted gpa of 3.9 i believe? but my grades are a bit better this quarter so i’m assuming it’s about a 4.0 now.
I have only had 1 C in my entire life, a C in my second quarter of math this year (junior year) which is not my strong point AT ALL. math is also what’s hindering my act and sat scores
I have taken AP classes and am dual enrolled.
I took AP Chem and APUSH. I also have taken quite a few classes at my local college and am starting to take lab classes there, all my grades at the college are high A’s. Also, almost every class (besides math) that isn’t AP is honors.
My report cards are predominately As and I also am involved in my schools National Honor Society and have almost 250 hours of community service.
but then, what sucks is my scores.
i took the sat once so far without studying (to get a feel of what i need to know)… 1110. it’s so bad, but in the meantime my family has helped pay for tutoring and prep classes for upcoming tests. my act has been steadily going up though, currently at a 23 (2nd time), still not good but i have hope that if i take it a few more times i could be okay.
i am so so terrified! i have a feeling i wont be good enough and it’s scaring me immensely. i want nothing more than to go to this college. is my future at ucf as unimaginable as i feel?
please help
First thing, do you know your class rank? UCF has a program called top 10 Knights which essentially guarantees you admission if you are in the top 10% of your class. If you meet the following criteria, you are in:
-You must currently attend a Florida high school.
-You must have a numerical rank in the top 10% of your senior class. Your official transcript must show your student rank number and the total number of students in your class. If your school does not rank, or provides a percentile rank only, a minimum GPA of 3.9 (based on UCF’s recalculated academic core GPA) is required to qualify.
-You must earn a minimum score of 1090 (Evidence-based Reading and Writing + Math) on the SAT or a composite ACT score of 21.
-You must submit a completed application and provide all required documentation to the UCF Office of Undergraduate --Admissions by January 15.
You must have successfully completed at least 4 units of approved academic core math by the end of your senior year.

If you don’t meet these criteria, there are still plenty of things you can do. According to the latest SUS matrix, the middle 50 percent of students starting in summer at UCF had an ACT score between 22-26. Your GPA is solid as well. So you are in the lane for summer admission. If it is your dream school, you should be willing to start in the summer.
Also, there’s still time to raise your scores. The college board has partnered with Kahn Academy to offer SAT online prep courses. I would suggest you follow the prompts and set up a rigorous (like an hour a day, five days per week) schedule to work on the areas where you are deficient, leading up to the August 24th test date. If you really want it, put in the work to raise the score.
Lastly, you want to get your application in as early as possible. UCF has rolling admissions so the sooner they get your information, the better chance you have. Write a good essay (get help and someone to review it for you) and plan to get the app in early.
I would also recommend visiting and going on the tour. It’s a nice campus and they give a rundown of the admissions process on the tour. I would also suggest leaving enough time to speak with folks from the admissions department and ask the same questions you are asking here.
Good luck.
