My Chances of Getting into UCSD?

Hi everyone,
I've seen a lot of good advice on here, and hope to get some for myself as well.
I attended Case Western Reserve University for my freshman year, however, due to financial reasons, I had to transfer to a california community college (De Anza). Sadly, I have to transfer again. All this transferring is making me go nuts. So this year I'm at De Anza, and getting ready to send out my applications to UCSD.
My Case gpa was 3.39 as of summer 2005. Do you think the admissions officers will take into account that Case is obviously much harder than De Anza?
I believe I will be getting straight A's all the way through this year.
What are my chances of getting in?

Also, I am majoring in Human Biology. On ASSIST, it recommends that I take 8 of the so many science/math courses listed. I will have 9, but the biology sequence will not be one of them. Do you think I should finish the Biology sequence at De Anza or when (if) I get admitted to UCSD? ( I am going pre-med).
Any other suggestions on what I should do this year will be great. Unfortunately I couldn't join the Honors Program here because I will not be at De Anza long enough to complete all requirements.

Please help!! I'm so nervous.

Thanks a lot guys!

I go to DeAnza, it's not easy...but it's not that challenging either.

You might find this useful....

Well maybe I just had a tough year last year. So far, De Anza is working well for me.

Kind of off-topic, but I hope you get into the UC of your choice :)

Thanks.....

Ok, need to go to DA now, statistics class at 830

De anza is where cool kids go to cc. all else=failure. btw, we have a tag with ucsd.

bah.. I found out too late about that. I think the deadline was the end of september this year.

I guess I have to depend on my grades and other things ><"

Why would you go nearly 600mi south? You can get an equally good 'premed' education nearby at Davis...med school mostly depends on your recommendations, interview, grades and scores...your school doesn't really matter...

...and there isn't really a 'premed' major, most often the bio sciences. In that case, Berkeley would be the best...so I don't understand why many ppl choose SD...the school really isn't as hyped up as it is.

Well, I think that depends. Different people like different things. I really like the SD area, and I think that's very important. Last year, I went to a university in Cleveland, Ohio. It was the coldest winter I've ever experienced in my life. Unbelievaable.

I went down to SD for a campus visit, one-on-one =). And I really liked it. I know about the hype, but it's not the reason I'm going there.

If I could go to UCB, I would. There are reasons why I can't, primarily because they want a lot of pre-requisites done. I don't want to stay another year at a CC. Besides, I feel more comfortable taking an upper-division course like org chem at a university. Nothing against CCs, really.

Anyways, it is too late to look back. Oh yeah, I am also applying to Davis :). I am actually favoring Davis because they have the Nutrition major. I don't know, these two schools are tough for me to decide.

I recommend seeing Vickey Moreno at DA as a counselor, she helped me out quite a bit.

Anyways, last year I was talking to her about the various transfer agreements, and SD came up. The problem with SD TAG agreement is that if you are applying for a high-impact major, then it's really difficult to complete. You have to complete a 2-3 three quarter sequences of classes that do not relate to your major at all. Meaning, if you plan to transfer out by your second year at DA, plan to take 30 units per quarter. The only way around this is to stay at DA for 3 years after High School graduation.

However, the TAA for Davis only wants me to complete a three quarter squence of Math (Done in my first year up to math 1D), and a three quarter sequence for Biology (Bio will be done at the end of this year) and Chemistry (Chem is done). In other words, TAA for Davis is great if your a Bio Major because its a good back-up.

Also, TAP for UCLA is like UCSD agreement. I checked with Foothill(DeAnza's sister school), and it does have a TAP. However, you are supposed to take "special" classes, and not only that, take Honor's seminars. It's a little more difficult to do in terms of scheduling also.

Chatuwalla & anyone else,
do you guys think it is important to get the Bio sequence done before I transfer? I'm still deciding whether I should start the sequence next quarter. I figure I could finish it off, since I would have my 8 done with or without this bio sequence. What do you guys think?

Chatuwalla- thanks for the info! I have been trying to find a good counselor to speak with. It's hard coming in and not knowing anything ;).

Man, I am so bored after class....

If you plan to apply to UCs in the coming weeks, then I don't see how you can complete the Bio Squence for this year. If you start it next quarter, you can get 2 of the three class complete.

I could finish it off in the summer right? Or is that a bad idea?

actually, I believe you can do that.
