Reach since you are not in the automatic admission category that takes up about three quarters of the admission places.
Apparently it is difficult if you are not automatically accepted, as you are competing against kids worldwide. Its a very multicultural campus and I meet so many kids from everywhere. All of them are aggressive and eager for that A.
But dont let that stop you. Apply. Of course, also get backups. But apply and give it your best shot.
I skipped classes in high school and forgot my calculator for the SAT. I was top 50% of my class. Still got in with a scholarship.
Dont overthink it. You have a chance.
@jiahuini What was your SAT? Did you have good ECs?
@ComplexX I wrote a long essay about how I got into UT and it was sent for approval? Idk you might read it later.
GPA: 3.0
Percentile: 50%
Program: Health and Science Magnet
SAT: ~1500
EC: mostly things I enjoyed, not really impressive or academic. Art club, film club, doctor shadowing, tech stuff for drama club, etc.
Certifications: CMA and CDA (and CPR lol if that counts?)
3 Recommendation Letters (1 art teacher, 1 biology teacher, 1 club leader)

First gen college student
Gap year/dropped out of local college & worked at call center
Managed to bump my ACT to a 25!
You’ll get CAP, sorry but very little chance you get in directly
@JackM82 @ucbalumnus i actually got accepted to UT and will be attending this fall! in hindsight i realized that making this thread and wasting time on CC, in general, was one of the worse ideas i could have ever made in this process. In truth, no one really knows the outcome of anything since we are not admissions officers, I just wish i would’ve taken that seriously in the beginning. Either way it worked out for me and i’m so grateful to officially be a Longhorn, hook em!
@dedeppp. Congrats on your admission! Your post is spot on and epitomizes everything that is wrong with “chance me” threads. Good luck at UT.
