my chances of getting into UT engineering

hi!
I'm applying for Petroleum Engineering and I'm really afraid that my rank and gpa will bring me down! I've gotten into Texas A&M Engineering and I have no problem going there but UT has been my dream school for as long as I can remember!

class rank: barely top 20%
gpa: 3.4 UW, 5.0 W
SAT: 2200 (700 M 720 CR 780 W)
ACT: 35 (32 M 35 E 35 S 36 R 8 essay)
going to take SAT Math II

ECs and Volunteer Work:
50 volunteering hours through YES program
80 volunteering hours at The Methodist Hospital
Historian of Key Club
Member of TASK (Teens Assisting Special Kids) for four years
Member of high school chapter of Red Cross for three years

APs:
psychology (5), art history (4), english language (5), biology (5), human geography (4), us history (5)

My rank is extremely low, but I've showed an extreme improvement in terms of grades over the last three years! will they take that into account at all?

I know my gpa and rank are both really low, and I've heard that UT takes those into account the most, so do I still have a chance to get into Cockrell at all?

Thank you so much!

All you can do is try. My nephew had similar stats and didn’t make it into the business school. He decided to get his bachelor’s degree OOS and apply to UT grad school. He is still upset at UT, though! He appealed the rejection without success.
