Hey, I applied to school of engineering at Texas A&M ( petroleum, but will try to change to biomedical if admitted ) and Georgia tech ( biomedical ) and i already got accepted in to Purdue general studies ( denied school of engineering :-( )
i applied to Texas and they got done processing all my info on 1/7 and i still do not have a decision and Gtech I find out on march 18 but wanna know what you guys think my chances are. Please help and thank you

The stats that Texas A&M has is that I'm ranked 29/505....but I'm 23/505 now
I'm resident of Indiana, and I am Vietnamese
My SAT scores were
math 710
CR 540
writing 450/490
the 450 is what i got when i got the 710 and 540 in math and CR
my gpa weighted is 3.9989
unweighted is 3.6 something i believe
My junior year i took 3 ap classes....Calculus AB,Stats, and US history
and senior year AP classes i take are, Micro and macro econ, Calculus BC, Chem 2 AP, Bio 2 AP, Compisition AP,

i took spanish all the way up to spanish V, but had to drop it second semester for government honors,

my extra curriculars aren't strong at all, and i havent worked much.

Your CR score is low. However, you may still get accepted since you’re OOS and these schools want students who will pay their high OOS tuition rates. Will your parents pay for these schools?

well…my efc is 0 :-(

i thought my CR was “average” and my math would make up for that cause its engineering but i guess not since purdue denied me

If your EFC is 0, then even if you get into those OOS publics they will not be affordable. The only OOS publics that help OOS students with their high costs are UNC-CH and UVA. The other publics do NOT have the money to do so. Publics usually do NOT have enough money to help their OWN instate kids…so they certainly do not have the money for OOS kids. These schools charge OOS rates for a reason. It wouldn’t make any sense to charge OOS rates if the schools were just going to cover those costs with need-based aid.

All you would likely get is a $5500 Pell grant, a $5500 student loan, and maybe some work study. Yet, those schools cost about $40k per year to attend.

Where else did you apply?

Do you know if Purdue gives good aid to instate students? If not, then paying for Purdue may also be a problem.

well, i really wouldnt mind having to make a large loan and what not because i look at college as an investment, but i got accepted in to Oklahoma University at norman, and thats it, and not sure how purdue is, but do you think ill get accepted into the program of engineering by either texas A&M or Gtech?

In-state tuition and fees: $9,070
Room and board: $9,120
Books and supplies: $1,050
Estimated personal expenses: $1,690
Transportation expense: $280

The direct costs to attend Purdue is about** $19k per year /B.

If you get full Pell and maximum fed student loan…that’s only $11k. Work study is really just for personal expenses.

Do you know if the state of Indiana gives any state aid to instate kids? If not, then Purdue may not provide you with enough money. You’d have about a $8k shortfall for direct costs. I don’t think you could net that much with a summer job.

Did you apply to any schools that you could commute to?

*i thought my CR was “average” and my math would make up for that cause its engineering but i guess not since purdue denied me *

Your Math + CR score is a 1250. That is probably low for Purdue Engineering. Their average is probably around a 1330 or so.

i really do not care for costs, because thats what student loans are for, my older brother put himself through college so i belieive i can too, i just would like to know your opinion on if you think gtech and texas A&M will accept me or not

I don’t believe you’ll get into Texas a&m, especially not without being a full pay. I was a full pay, with better stats and strong ecs applying undecided and I didn’t get accepted. Engineering is competitive and many Texans are competing for those spots. I think the same goes for ga tech, they’re well known so they’re pulling a high quality applicant field and your writing and cr will hurt you.

On the FA note, for kids with no credit/under certain age you can only take out so
Much loan you can’t pay the full $40k with a parent plus or something of the like
