My chances on Georgetown University's Biostatistics or Mathematics and Statistic graduate degree

Hello all,

I ask for your kind input on my chances in Georgetown University’s Biostatistics Graduate School (or Mathematics and Statistic graduate degree).

I am international student holding a bachelors degree from George Washington University Elliott School (International Affairs Major), a flagship program at my school. And currently working in the DC area.
My overall GPA is extremely low, at high 3.1s (the cutoff is at 3.0).
My main major (International Affairs) GPA is a little better, at low 3.4s.
My second major (Economics) GPA is also not impressive, at high 3.2s.
The average grades get higher throughout my college career. Starting around C average per semester to A- and B+ average per semester towards end. In my opinion should be a tiny bit of compensation for the low overall GPA.

I do not have much background coursework in Math or statistics.
I have taken introductory statistics and upper level Statistical Analysis courses, which I received A in both.
As for Math courses, I have taken none except that I have passed the AP Calculus exam.
Consequentially, in order to even apply for the Biostatistics Graduate school, I would have to take extra courses in math (Calc III and linear algebra). And I plan to take them in October 2018.

I took my first GRE few weeks back and got V. 152 Q. 157. I plan to retake the exam with more focus towards Quant section.
Preferably I will get around 165, which I feel is doable.

I lack much in the above mentioned areas, however, I feel that my strong suits are in work experience.
I juggled school and internship starting my 1st semester of Junior year until graduation.
Most relatable work experiences will be the following:

  1. 2 years of military service, although mandatory, apart from the internships at a key military facility.
  2. Summer internship where I investigated big data potential on predicting copper and other metals market fluctuations.
  3. And lastly, I am currently working at an international organization that mainly deals with International Economics.

My dream still lies with international affairs/development. Technical and concrete professional skills is what I need to really flourish in my career path. Biostatistics will provide me the edge I need. Considering Georgetown University’s Biostatistics and Mathematics and Statistics Graduate school are not considered the key disciplines of the school, do you think I would have a shot at being admitted to the school?

In summary,

  1. Completely different bachelors degree field, although flagship program.
  2. Very low overall GPA, but okay major GPA. And increasing average grades.
  3. Average GRE Score
  4. Lack number of statistical courses, but good grades in the ones that I have taken. And will take couple more courses which I will strive to get best grades at.
  5. Not fully relevant, but relatable work experiences and good future job potential.

Thank you for reading through the long message, but would greatly appreciate any input from qualified individuals.
