So.. this is my first CC post! Would anyone who knows about NYU predict my status with NYU. I DID apply early to CAS for the dual-degree in Engineering

GPA- high 3.5 or low 3.6
Highest SAT- 1340 (650/690)
Lots of extra-curriculars:
Part of many clubs... lead a school club... design websites professionally (3 professional websites)... have contributed significantly to my school (ie- admission tour-guide).. Varsity VBall Captain

Male from NYC.. don't want boaring (will live at home)

Pretty strong essay about losing weight

Haha-- I'm so bad at this post thing (hence the two posts by mistake). I also forgot to mention I'm taking three APs (French, Statistics, Comp Science)

Your SAT is a little on the low side (NYU's avg. for this year's frosh was 1353...it was higher for CAS & Stern/ lower for School of Ed., GSP, etc.) Is that GPA weighted or not...obviously its much stronger if not weighted (a weighted 3.5 would be kind of low indeed). The varsity bball capitan thing struck me though...is this an activity you are planning to pursue at NYU and have got the attention of the athletic dept??.. if so, you have a great chance.

Being a white kid from NY will hurt you (as a sidenote I would reccomend you not live at home, its so much more fun living in dorms, you'll have an easier time making friends and feel much more part of the school)....Norheasterners get the shaft in admissions to these type of schools. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be fatal....you're certainly in the running I say.

Overall, you still seem to be a competitive applicant (Neelesh..how do you quantify a chance, eg. 80%...unless you sit on the NYU admissions cmte....thats patently ridiculous). Despite a borderline GPA and SAT, a great essay and recs. may put you over the top, every year many people like you are pleasantly surprised to get in. It was a very smart move applying ED.

I would like to say your in, but I don't really know. I would say this is a reach/match school for you.

I don't want to hijack this thread but, it seems superfluous to start a new thread for the same question. jwblue could you make a prediction for me? I ask because I am similar to RoKlein, and you went to NYU. I am:
White and from Hawaii
SAT= 1330
GPA= 3.77 unweighted
Decent Couse Load=3 AP's this year; 2 last year (both 4's)
I come from a good private school with good EC's(student gov, athletics, etc.) and a pretty good essay about a past summer job and a dead cow. Oh yeah, I applied ED to CAS.

Thanks so much everyone for your informative (and optimistic) replies. I hope you're all right..

Also... my GPA is unweighted and NYU recently called up my school to ask specifically for me November Math 1C test scores (even though I also took writing). I DID score a 660 on writing and a 670 in math, so I'm hoping these are suitable- for now I'll just keep my fingers crossed tight.

Well, thanks again so much for all of your help... I'm glad to see all of the enthusiasm for NYU within its alumni community... as well as the maturity of applicants (Mauiboy).

Good luck to all of you,

Robert

PS- Hope to see you at NYU also, MauiBoy!- What major did you apply for?
