Ok, I'm really worried because my junior year wasn't the best. I had a lot of family issues and extenuating circumstances. Overall my cumulative UW gpa is a 3.8 and my cumulative weighted gpa is a 4.5. When it comes to my first semester junior year UW gpa it's a 3.3. I've had a 4.0 and 3.9 my previous years. My weighted is a 4.6 for junior year. I'm aiming for a 30+ on the act. If I do these things do I have a shot at NW Early Descion? I really want to attend and I'm trying for a 3.9-4.0 second semester of this year (jr. yr).

Is there anything else I can do? I also go to a really selective high school. Are there any other selective schools that I still have a chance at (UChicago, NYU, U-Michigan, Emory)?

i will chance back for anyone

yeah u’ve a good shot… though focus on ECs as well. And make sure the colleges know about your circumstances well–they truly will take it into account.

If I were you, I’d really focus more on EC’s and community service…It’s a little bit late, but you might be able to redeem yourself–volunteer at a hospital/homeless shelter/soup kitchen over the summer for 100+ hours and/or start donations for charity at school (e.g., bakes sales and food drives, etc.)…

Remember, GPA and scores aren’t EVERYTHING…

Chance me back?

If your junior year performance was hindered by family issues, I would definitely make that clear to adcoms when you apply either through one of your application essays or by making sure your college counselor addresses this grade dip on his/her recommendation.

And of course, make sure your ECs help balance out your portfolio. But ultimately, the transcript and test scores are the most important documents, and extracurriculars are the cherry on top.
