My questions:

1.) What colleges can I get into that are pretty/really good?
2.) What can I do to improve myself?

PLEASE help. I'll really appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Or do you think that any other Ivy league or very good colleges would accept me? Thakns.

You have a good shot, but there are so many Chinese students with high GPAs. My advice, raise you SAT, narrow in on the ECs that interest you, and write superb essays.

You’re probably a shoe in for public schools in your state, but for better private and Ivy schools, you could improve.

Be extraordinary in your EC’s. Countless people are in Key Club, French Club, and I’ve known a few people who’ve taught Chinese to be rejected from Ivies. Find something special that you like and go above and beyond what people normally do. And then write a killer essay about it.

For both CC and SEAS, your SATs are a bit low for an asian. GPA is nice; Class rank is fine.

Too much “Chinese.” Not to be racist, but the way I see it, your ethnicity gives you an advantage when you join groups that are related to your ethnicity…it’s hard to compare you in that case (a white or black kid obviously won’t make it into the Chinese Leadership Association, for example).

You have a shot, but to be realistic, it’s not too high. Remember, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton would LOVE to accept 60% of its applicants because they’re all awesome, but they can only accept a thousand or two. The rest of the awesome applicants gets thrown into Columbia. These guys have the same stats as the guys who got into Harvard. Keep that in mind. Columbia’s no joke!

Thanks everyone.
Yes, I am aware that there is ‘too much chinese’ but I want to EMPHASIZE that point. I want to emphasize to colleges that I am very strong in languages. (Took AP Chinese, SAT Chinese, Teacher’s assistant of AP CHinese, Teacher’s assistant of SAT Chinese…Will take AP English, took Creative Writing, Newspaper…Took AP French, Frenh Club member…took Spanish I and II) is there any way I can emphasize this in some way or reinforce my strength in languages by joining some sort of collaboration?
I also want to earn many awards/recognition but I don’t know of any opportunities…suggestions?
Thank you!

Note that almost every Chinese person in Canada is proficient in English, Chinese, and French (and, if the Asians I know are any indication, many of them know quite a bit of Japanese too). It’s good that you have a focus, but it’s nothing special.

It’s cool and all, but if you like languages, why not pick up another one? An obscure one would be quite fun and unique too.

Hey zephyravatar, what obscure language would you suggest? I want one that’s relatively easier. Thanks.

Break 2200 on the sats, and you might have a chance…you never know…

I’ll be brutally honest. Based on what I see, your chance of getting into Columbia are slim.

I don’t see anything that will stick in the mind of an admissions officer in terms of you being unique or a leader who has distinguished themselves. Lack of sports is an issue and your ECs are not that impressive.
