Maybe too much info…any comments will be appreciated!

You are a match/safety for BU. BU has a very large and diverse international population. You will fit right in.

your college list and you AP information

APs are pretty much discouraged at our school. I guess our emphasis is on IBs? Anyways, we did have a chance to take the AP English last year (Gr11) but were only told 3wks beforehand that we could take it. Anyways, got a 3 on that so I'm not sure if I will report the score.

College list right now is all over the place. In no particular order:

Georgetown (EA..I know, I'm way out of their league)
Boston Univ
Univ of Virginia
George Washington
Tufts Univ
Univ of British Columbia (Canada)
Intl Christian Univ (Japan)

I'm not sure about others... I was thinking Middlebury/Bryn Mawr, etc...But then Middlebury seems a bit too remote for me, and BrynMawr started their Intl Relations last year, although I could crossregister with their program..

I think your chance is as follows if your sat of Oct.8 is about 1400.
Georgetown (EA..I know, I'm way out of their league) slight reach
Boston Univ - match
Univ of Virginia - reach
George Washington safety match
Tufts Univ match
Univ of British Columbia (Canada) safety match
Intl Christian Univ (Japan) ???

by the way, I am Chinese girl too. there are Chinese students in your school. Are they excellent?

Actually not many Chinese people in our school. Japanese is the majority. Figures, since we're in Japan. But it's not really justified because our class / school is SO tiny anyways. One class per HS grade and about 30 in each class. There's a girl from Harbin, China in my class. Her math+sciences are great but English is so-so but she started English in her Freshman year.

A Chinese boy is in the junior class...same goes for him. Maths+sciences ...just "wow". But English so-so.

The other Chinese I can think of are Taiwanese and they're in middle school so I don't really know.... And it's only a handful anyways.

Your grades show an upward trend and your international orientation and interesting ECs will help. Your SAT scores are a little low so hopefully you'll raise at least 1 or 2 of them since its the top in each category that get blended. Have you tried the ACT to see if that is a better type test for you? It is for many kids plus then you can skip SAT 2s. I'd still say your chances are decent at BU. Which BU school would you apply to? CAS?

There is a strong international presence at BU as mentioned. G-town is a reach though unless they need more diversity and that gets considered. GW is a match safety. Tufts is a match-reach in my opinion. Like GW I think the U of Va sat averages are lower than BU so if you live in VA that will be a match.

snerry, Do you think you are a Malaysia or Chinese?

I have almost zero relationship with Malaysia sooo I've never considered myself Malaysian except for my passport.... So I'm Chinese! Nothing against the country....it just that there is truly bad blood between our family and my dad's side of the family. My grandmother basically denies that I exist.

We are all international people.

:D

oh also, I'm interested in Int'l Relations/Foreign Affairs

Your academic stats are amazing, you seriously have no idea. Most colleges hold IB students such as yourself in very high regard (many state universities will admit on the basis of your IB diploma alone!). You should have no problem getting into any of the schools that you mentioned, with the exception of Georgetown. Georgetown is, after all, a very elite school in the same league with Cornell or UChicago. Also, I'm not sure you would like it there, as the school is dominated by upper-crust WASPs and there really isn't a very significant Asian presence at the school or in the DC area for that matter. Boston U and UBC are both excellent matches for you. Good luck!
