My chances please ...

<p>Hello!</p>

<p>I really want to get into the engineering program at Columbia University, but I have no clue on whether I even have a chance or not.</p>

<p>My Stats:
GPA: 3.97UW / 4.67W
SATI: 2110 (680R,740M,690W)
SATIIs: I didn't take them yet. I am going to take Math, Chemistry, and US History in May.
ACT: 32 (29E,32M,33R,34S) My First time ever looking at the test. I am going to take it again in June.
Class Rank: My school doesn't give ranks, but I think I am in the top 10%. I go to an extremely competitive public school in Silicon Valley.
APs: I did not take any tests yet, but these are what I am taking.
Junior Year: Calculus BC, Computer Science AB, US History, Chemistry
Senior Year: US Government, Statistics, Physics B & C, Biology, French<br>
I am a Junior right now, and my district offers a program in which I will be able to take all of my senior year classes at a local community college. So basically, I will have accumulated a years worth of college credit in senior year.</p>

<p>Achievements:
- Qualified to Destination Imagination International Finals for prior two years. (My team got first at the state level) and we won first place at the international level last year). I am participating this and plan on doing so next year.
- Volunteer of the Year for Santa Clara County Dept. of Immigration
- Gold Level Presidential Volunteer Service Award</p>

<p>ECs:
- Member of Photography Club at my school for past three years. VP in 9th an 10th.
- Active in Destination Imagination(DI) program, and I started a DI club at my school this year to raise awareness about the program.
- I currently run a web consulting business and I design and manage websites for various startup companies, etc.
- I also make websites for free for non-profit organizations.
- I am currently involved in a program for an volunteer organisation called City Year.
- And I am currently trying to raise money and increase support for an orphanage and a low cost school that my grandmother founded in India.</p>

<p>Can you guys give me my chances. I seriously think that my ECs are weak compared to many of the people on this forum. </p>

<p>Colleges I'm thinking about:
- Columbia University (My #1)
- Stanford
- UCB
- Carnegie Mellon
- Caltech</p>

<p>Thanks for all of your help you guys!</p>

<p>You have mostly big reaches. Your SAT is below average for any ivy/Stanford, way low for Caltech and your GPA if just top 10% is sub par for those schools too. CMU is a match and UCB a slight reach.</p>

<p>Yeah, I thought as much..... I wish my parents hadn't decided to live in this year. Things would have been a lot easier. My school is just crazy competitive and my class is even more crazy. Other comments or other colleges that I should look at that would match my stats?</p>

<p>I wouldn't say its a huge reach. Your chances would be a lot better if you had a higher SAT score, but that doesn't mean you don't have a chance. I think you have the best chance at Carnegie Mellon and UCB, but don't hesitate to apply to all...if you have an excellent essay and good recs, then who knows what can happen? Good luck.</p>

<p>"Your SAT is below average for any ivy/Stanford,"</p>

<p>Stanford's average SAT is 2150, which is only 40 points away from the OPs. Yes, it's below average, but not by much.</p>

<p>You won't be considered without the SAT II's.</p>

<p>ccri: It's not like I won't be taking the SAT IIs. I am taking them in May.</p>

<p>Should I take the SAT again? I think that I can do much better on the ACT so I want to do that, but is it considered "less" than the SAT?</p>

<p>akhiln, you might do better on the ACT. Give it a shot! If you score within the 33-36 range, you should be good.</p>
