I'm gone for what, over a year, and this discussion forum is still a joke and rampant with posers. Babouche can't even keep her fake statistics constant throughout all her posts. The only thing that sparks my curiosity is speculating whether her posts are meant to be a joke or whether this is a projection of her "ideal" self. Unless of course Babouche can post her paper on Methyltransferase here so we can all see how original her "research" really is.

hmmm...wanderer quit being such a cynic lol if she's lying it'll bite him/her in the ass later. HOWEVER, since I don't see why anyone should have a reason to lie, I believe him/her and I feel that he/she is a definite shoo-in. Especially since he/she's an urm.

-Don't believe for a second that I actually spent more than a few minutes doing something so simple as a copy and a paste. There's more than enough room here on this forum for you to post a very good amount, if not all, of your research paper. Why send it to me when you can make a fool of me and show everyone I'm really an idiot after all. To tell you the truth, I would actually love to be proven wrong here. However, until then, enjoy yourself and good day to all.

Also, a Latina applying to the Engineering School with those statistics who was not invited to Mosaic or Scholarship(Hispanic) weekend, I find that interesting as well.

As I look at the statistics, they are pretty consistent. Where do you see the unconsistencies? I took the SAT later and improved my verbal somewhat. I was hoping to get a 700 in writing but when I re-took it I only got a 650, oh well.......
My mother called me to tell me there was a large envelop waiting for me (sadly it was some brochure from St. Louis U. not Wash U.)
Finally, here is part of my abstract:

The goal of this project is to purify our protein, Eco29kI DNA Methyltransferase (MTase) by liquid column chromatography so that we may be able to characterize its biochemical properties for further fundamental research. This particular protein, a component of a restriction-modification system, can be sited in bacteria. The significance of MTase is its capability to distinguish the DNA from viral DNA by facilitating them to undergo a mutation at the bonding site, therefore restricting the foreign invader to successfully bond with the DNA. MTase can be further arranged into two categories: Exocyclic (amino methyltransferases) and endocyclic (ring methyltransferases.) The three groups α, β, γ are subdivisions of the amino methyltransferases which can form either N6 methyl adenine or N4 methyl cytosine. Ring methyltransferases methylate ring carbon forming C5 methyl cytosine. The different strands of MTase will all remove a methyl group from S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine (AdoMet), and attach it to a specific nucleic acid depending on its particular sequence.

It was a gret experience to work one on one in a lab and don't think for a minute that I did the research all alone there was a scientist supervising me (so, are all the other Intel, Sharp......kids) do you really believe that kids from HS can build a robot, discover a new star... without some guidance? If you do, you are pretty naive....But what counts is the willingness to spend a summer in a lab away from your friends and the beach....

Why I didn't get invited? That's the question I ask myself everyday and it ain't easy. Maybe my zipcode....but most probably beeing Hispanic is not enough, you also have to be underprivileged.....

Your abstract is believable enough. Minus the discrepancies: ranked top 15%->10%->unranked, 4 different sets of SAT I scores, 3.5->3.4, 2 different Math IIC scores, 3 different writing scores, 3 different physics scores, and all without some sort of pattern. However, that could all easily be due to taking an inordinate amount of SAT's. Since I've already wasted enough time here and considering I don't plan to spend more than the roughly 20 minutes I've used for this forum in the past year, I'll bite the bullet and my tongue on this one. I'll say I'm wrong. Good luck to you and everyone else here. Hopefully you'll all end up going to the college you like the most and the one that fits you the best. I know I did. And with that, I'll say...Peace

ooops!!!! when I copied and pasted and left out some stuffs out of the highlight and ....Oh well!!!! They've got the real scores from the collegeboard. Not to worry. and yes, My verbal is "verry week" and my SAT2 except Math 2C are all below 700. And my Russian scientist and I worked very hard for 8 weeks on that research

I think that your chances are good at Vandy, particularly if you made a connection with the admissions committee representative that covers your high school. For example, did you send an update letter in January or February? Vanderbilt doesn't like to be anyone's fallback. But I have a different question for you. My niece is trying to decide between taking astronomy/science courses at one of the top colleges, Cornell, Harvard, etc. or going to a pre-college research program in Puschino, Russia. She is currently a sophomore and is very bright. Did you go with KEI, and if so, would you recommend it? Is it work, work, work? Are you surrounded by adults or can you work with other students? Did you feel safe at all times?

Puschino was an incredible experience. My brother is going there this summer. You basically work all day with a team of scientist (usually only 1 or 2 speak english) there were 10 of us and the environment is very safe. We stayed at a hotel and everyday we each left to our respective centers. It is unique in that you are the only kid in the group.

If you are hispanic with an SAT score above 1300, good grades, top 10% of your class with high level of course difficulty, good essays and recs, I am almost 99.9% sure you will get in unless there were too many hispanics applying from the same state with better stats than you. I personally do not know any hispanics that were rejected from Vanderbilt that had 1200 SAT or above. Sometimes even lower. Hope that is comforting.
