my chances, please?

i'm an asian junior interested in applying to:

duke
yale
princeton
harvard
upenn
university of chicago
emory
rice
columbia
caltech
mit
stanford

. what are my chances (reach, match, etc)

major: uncertain, maybe biology

rank: 2/600-ish in a pretty competitive high school in alabama (does living in a less competitive state give me an edge?). last year, one person got into upenn, one into duke, one got admission to princeton but went to oxford, one into mit. there are probably one or two more who got into a good college.

SAT: 780 math, 720 CR 630 writing. i will take it again to improve my critical reading and writing sections.
PSAT: 226- so i'll probably be a national merit semifinalist. sent the psat report thing to upenn and yale (but does that make a difference?)

AP classes:

Chem: A+
USH: A
Environ: A+
Bio: A+
Macro: A
English Lang/Comp: A+
Calculus BC: A+

Next year:

English Lit
Calculus C at local college (will count as AP)
Gov
Physics Mechanical

AP scores:
chem-4, ush-4, bio-5, environmental science-5, calculus bc-4 (ab subscore 5), english lang/comp-4, so ill probably be an ap scholar with distinction

EC's

JV Tennis:9th, received junior patriot award for good attitude
Varsity Tennis: 10,11, probably 12, lettered in 11th grade
Youth group treasurer, will probably be officer 12th grade too.
Mu alpha theta
Science honor society

Thats all i can think of right now. my grades are good but my ec's are weak. i'm thinking about starting a table tennis club in school, since i really enjoy ping pong. so what do you think? sorry if youve seen my other chance me threads but people dont really respond much in the individual college forums. thanks a bunch!

btw: i will chance you back if you want me to. but to tell you the truth, i dont know that much about admissions. if you want me to though, i will though.

anyone?10char

You have good chances. I would say yes for penn, maybe for yale.
Chance me?

Your grades/GPA/rank are very solid. Try to get that SAT score up and you’ll have a good chance! You don’t have very many ECs, but that’s not a bad thing for you since you show leadership in most of the things you do.
As for your schools:

I think you have a good shot at Duke, UChicago, Emory, and Rice.
UPenn, Columbia, and Caltech will be lower reaches for you. Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, and MIT will be higher reaches for you (and everyone else, of course).

Yeah good grades, should really improve SAT Writing. As you already said, EC’s are a bit weak especially for top school like you listed. most of them will be reaches for you.
Try to find more matches and safeties.
But you definitely come an underrepresented state i think, but i am from germany, so don’t know

Chance Back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/745578-what-colleges-should-asian-germany-look-chance-back.html</a></p>

i do have some safeties, i just didnt list it. my safeties are alabama, uah, auburn, and uab. i can go to alabama for free.

duke-Low Reach
yale-High Reach (it is for everyone)
princeton-High Reach (ditto)
harvard-High Reach (ditto again)
upenn-Mid Reach
university of chicago-Low to Mid Reach
emory-High Match
rice-Mid to High Match
columbia-Mid to High Reach
caltech-High Reach
mit-High Reach
stanford-High Reach (It is for everybody, especially for Asians [I am an Asian, btw])

Could you also list your SATIIs and a list of awards?

Your GPA/Ranking is solid, in conjunction with your next year’s courses. However, the next time you test, I would recommend that you aim for 2300+, which, according to your PSAT results, are well within reach. Since you are currently a junior, I would advise you to run for more offices and take charge in events and/or clubs. In addition, next summer, apply for science internships and research. That would be an excellent addition should you wish to apply to selective science-heavy institutions like CalTech and MIT.

you should also check out [College Admission Chances | My Chances.net - College admissions predictions.](http://■■■■■■/FWl5i) to see your chances. it’s good to get a variety of input to see your shot of getting in. and you won’t have to keep bumping threads to get input.

sweet. thanks. oh btw im a rising senior, not a junior. i keep forgetting that im a senior now. :)

my awards:
academic top eleven- 9th grade
junior patriot award- 9th grade JV tennis- for good attitude
will be ap scholar with distinction
will probably be national merit semifinalist i got a 226 on the psat
honor roll and stuff like that.

sat2s:
bio E- 750
will take math 2, ush, lit

bump. i will chance back

ha you’re applying to basically the same list as i am. but i’m surprised you haven’t considered hopkins. its emory’s rival (according to the on-campus tour at emory) and seriously, its amazing. my number one pick right now.
you should definitely bring up your CR score; your writing score could be okay since they don’t weigh it as heavily, but its never bad to look even better than necessary.

to be perfectly honest, you’re main flaw in this whole thing is that i don’t see much leadership experience in anything. you don’t have to do something incredible, but leadership experience is good.

wow the more i read it, the more it astounds me. your ECs, interests, AP awards, sports…weirdly similar to me. :)

chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/712633-what-my-chances.html</a></p>

oh and p.s. you should consider finding something that really clearly shows your interests. for example, if you’re interested in math, take up a leadership role in Mu Alpha Theta and do something with it!

duke-Low Reach
yale-High Reach (crapshoot for everyone)
princeton- ^^
harvard- ^^
upenn- i’m gonna say mid-high reach but i’m not too sure
university of chicago- low reach
emory- match
rice- match
columbia- high reach
caltech-high Reach
mit-high Reach
stanford-High Reach (especially for an out of stater).

hope this helps :)

just a tip. my sister got into emory with like 550-650s on every SAT section, i think she took 1 or 2 sat subject tests and got in the same range on them.
but she showed leadership by creating a charity and being captian of the tennis team, and those were her interests. and she focused her essay on her inspiration for the charity.
she didnt do anything outstanding (she got like 1-2 on every AP test she took) but she put her time and effort into a superb essay.

does sending the psat national merit thing to upenn and yale improve my chances? haha actually i did run for president for mu alpha theta. but on the day of the election none of the juniors came and i lost.

Yeah, your GPa. Sat and so are strong but your E.c’s are a little weak. Doesn’t matter though b/c iif you love the clubs thats important. Just curoious, where are your safeties?

university of alabama at huntsville, u of a at tusculoosa (i can go there for free), auburn, uab, vanderbilt

oh that sucks.
and nope doesn’t matter to schools of that caliber, especially ones that don’t offer scholarships for national merit finalists or anything.
i mean it might not look bad, but its not going to be any major improvement of your chances.

bump…

bump bump. bump.
