Hi I was wondering what my chances were at Georgetown

My weighted gpa is a 4.68 and im 9/496 which is in top 5%
I think i have about a 3.9 unweighted.
I take as many APs and honors classes I can fit in my schedual. This year i am taking Honors Physics, Honors Pre-calc, Honors English, AP French, AP gov and pol, AP euro.

The only problem is my standardized test scores. I got a 27 on the act (29 in Reading and Math, 28 in science and 24 in english). I am not very good at grammer.
I also took SAT2 im Math (620) and History (650) and got a 4 on AP us history

I am Secretary of NHS, Vice- president of French club and involved in numerous other clubs.
I volunteer at the ST. MArks food kitchen and habitat for humanity. Also, I have participated in People to People one summer and an internship at the courthouse during another.
What are my chances please? I applied EA

I will resist the temptation to poke too much fun. This is the Tulane area, not Georgetown. For what it is worth, I think your chances at Georgetown are slim, and EA almost none. A lot depends on how rigorous your high school is. I realize you took a tough schedule (you really need to use spell check), and that will help, but Georgetown has very competitive admissions, more so than Tulane. There will be lots of students with similar grades and EC’s and much better test scores. Best of luck though.

i ment to ask for my chances at Tulane. I applied early action there. (I accidentally said georgetown for some odd reason).
I am sorry about the errors.

Well, I don’t know how odd it is. It looks like you are interested in Georgetown also, since you posted there too. Anyway, I think you will most likely get into Tulane. EA is tougher call, because of your low ACT score. Hopefully your essay was checked for spelling, because one with numerous errors is a red flag. But under the theory that you would get in RD, they might go ahead and offer you admission now. I have heard, though, that the quality of applicants this year is very high. I guess we will see if it is true.

I am more interested in Tulane which is why I applied EA but Georgetown is also a school I am applying to RD. I am very sorry to have upset you.
thank you so much for your input (I have been working on my spelling)

We toured there today. They said the applicant pool is highly qualified and getting tougher each year. It appears that those that would have received money 1-2 years ago based on their state (SAT/GPA) would not get it this year.

Hi leparisr - Maybe I am the one that needs to apologize, although I think we just had a misunderstanding. I didn’t mean to sound harsh, sometimes things come across on the internet a little flat. As far as the spelling, just be careful. With spell check, people would wonder why something was not corrected. Anyway, I am happy to help if I can. I do wish you the best of luck.

Maybe the confusion is because Tulane played Georgetown in basketball last night?? ;)The first half was really close and really great!! (I was in NOLA and went with some friends, my s, his friends and my friend’s son -a prospie). We left after the first period. Unfortunately it was apparently downhill from there… :(

Our stats (GPA and classes at least) are very similar and I just found out I was accepted via their online system, so no letter yet confirming merit $$. I too applied to Georgetown so fingers crossed for both of us.

So I sent in my application during the end of october and sent all of my trancript information a couple days after. My status still says that I am missing information. What should I do? Is it because Tulane has so many EA applicants?

Could be. Definitely send an e-mail to your Adcom. I have seen postings on here saying that when they checked, they found out 2 files had been created so the loop never would have been closed. Follow up for sure.

And yea, I know you didn’t ask this but I must say.
I hate that school. Are you an instate? I am an instate with guaranteed admission and I won’t even apply. It has a ridiculous reputation here and the people there are like ew ugh fwarrrg dslfjsdkf.

Obviously we can only speculate; no one knows how they decide whether to give merit aid or how much. But I would sure think that with your great GPA, high class rank, challenging schedule, and good EC’s you will get some kind of offer. Also, don’t feel like you are badgering them if the status doesn’t change by the end of this week. Send an e-mail to your personal adcom and see if they can straighten it out. I mean I wouldn’t do it every day of course, but once a week at this point is OK until you get an answer about what is missing or whatever is going on.

lifegr - very mature. Tulane is lucky not to have you.

Seeing your other post on how some people in your school administration “hate” you, it all becomes clear. Maybe you should do some self-examination to understand why a little better.

I have nothing against that school, I am only speaking the TRUTH.
I live 20minutes away from the school and have heard about the school so long.

It’s ok. Even my counselor said I will not get into Cornell. She recommended that I apply to Tulane like other students at my school and I said No right away. She might think I am snobby and strongheaded to say so quick. Ha Ha Ha

Maybe so. Better not to go to college so close to home anyway, no matter what you think of the school. Still, I think your impressions about Tulane are way off base. It doesn’t really matter. I am sure you will end up somewhere you like. You come across as someone that spent more time in Germany than Australia, though.
