Rice

I think it looks like I do too much but I was actually very involved in everything that I did.

For Rice, I have an interview will attend a open house in ATL and do an over-nighter

Essays
one will highlight my experience in Africa (which I think is prob the same way anyone would feel after going there, nothing too special accept the experience)

other how I have over come all the trouble and turmoil in my life and not let that stop me

So any chance??

As an African American applicant, you are an URM for both schools and should expect that your 1270/1600 SAT I scores will get you significant positive attention fron the admissions officers at both of these outstanding universities!

No one can really tell you how admissions will view your application. But you'll never know if you don't apply. Really concentrate on your essays. Request an alumni interview, visit if you can. Good luck!

On another note, i'm very sorry about your grandmother. May she rest in peace.

so you guys think I have a solid chance?

You definitely have a solid chance man, good luck!

You have a chance, yes. There is no "solid" in admissions!

wow sounds like you have a lot of experiences you could talk about in essays and such. I think you have a pretty decent shot. just write your essays well and convey who you are

You have a great personal background along the lines of EC's, challenges you've overcome, and hooks, but I think your scores and GPA will hurt you. Both are low for Rice, so while I think admissions will see you as a good addition to the student culture/body, they may worry about your capability of handling the strenuous academics. You definitely have a shot, but I would say Rice is still at least a low reach.

I respectfully disagree with posts #3 & #6. Although well intentioned, they are dead wrong. Colleges & universities spend a great deal of resources trying to identify & attract applicants like you.
