My chances? Syracuse University to NYU-Poly (Engineering)

Hello everyone. I'd like to start off by saying I appreciate any replies I might get on this discussion -- I need all I can get. I am currently a freshman engineering major at Syracuse University but have realized I ultimately want to transfer, for a variety of reasons. First of all, I thought living away from home wouldn't be a problem and it really hasn't been quite the issue for me seeing as how almost 2 months in and I'm learning to live by myself 4 hours away from home. One of greatest driving factors is wanting to study in the city where I can have the familial support right away, if I need it, while preferably still living outside of home (NYU-Poly residence halls). To sort of justify my reasons for also transferring, I would like to point out that Syracuse University is slightly larger than I would have expected and while it doesn't quite pose a difficulty for me, it would be comforting to be a part of a slightly smaller community.

The dilemma I'm facing now is a rather mental one. I've gone ahead and submitted my transfer application to NYU-Poly and have a great longing to be admitted but the issue is I'm not sure if it's entirely possible. I've been having a rather tough time making the transition from high school to college, academics-wise. That is, it's been hard getting use out of my resources and having to find the study habits for which weren't required in high school. I went to a rather disadvantaged high school, when compared to other students' high school background here at SU, and already that brings another hard task. My grades are suffering and I'm trying to get up and off the floor but I fear my struggles will hurt my chances of getting into NYU-Poly. I suppose I'm asking for words of advice, and perhaps, potential assurance that I might have a chance of being admitted to NYU-Poly after all.

Talk to admissions at NYU-Poly to see what they recommend as a GPA for transfer students. Since this is your preferred choice, you need to figure out what they want as soon as possible and they are the best source of information.

Will do. Thanks!
