What are my chances of getting accepted to Champaign or Wash U? Any other good medical schools tht i have a chance in?

and what's your opinion on transferring from Kansas University after 2 years to Champaign or Wash U?

I plan on going into med.
Im really confused and dont really know what to do. And the time is winding down. Please let me know anything that might be helpful to me. (any other good colleges that i have a chance in, how to strengthen my application, a way to boost my reading ACT score, etc.)

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE!!! ANYTHING WILL BE VERY HELPFUL TO ME!

i think you have a decent shot at wash u; however, there is no guarantee about gettting into the medical program via university scholars. im not too familiar with the ACT (im on the west coast, so yea...not that many people take the act here) although i think your score should be within the middle 50% of ACT scores at wash u

watch out for your ACT score with champaign. it's getting really tough to get in.

It is very difficult to predict who will/will not be accepted to WashU. However, I honestly think it would be a reach due to your class rank (they love vals, so #80 is pretty far off the mark) and your ACT score. I think even 30 will be too low given your rank. BUT ... as I said, WashU is hard to figure out, so do apply if you are interested. It's a reach, not an impossibility.

You have a good core of classes, which will work in your favor. I am interested in knowing your ACT math subscore. I suspect your other subscores are a bit low due to the fact that English is your second language. Is math quite a bit higher? If so, that is a good thing ... some schools might "forgive" the other scores if your math subscore is high & your school performance is strong. Getting into WashU's med scholars program is insanely competitive, so I think that's out of the question (I couldn't believe the accomplishments of the kids interested in that program).

Your chances for med school are GREAT!!! Med school is a long way off. Choose a college where you will feel comfortable establishing relationships with professors & get involved in campus activities. Make yourself an appealing candidate, one who stands out from the crowd. Personal relationships with profs will yield excellent, sincere recommendations. Leadership on campus will distinguish you from the pack. Students go to med school from so many different colleges. You don't have to go to a top tier school to have a chance at med school. Do well in your classes. Do research. Shadow a doctor. Volunteer in a hospital. These things are more important than getting into a "certain" undergrad school.

Champaign should not be such a big obstacle because u r applying for the med and not the ultra competitive eng programs

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble here--but the others who have posted (except kelsmom) don't know much about Univ of Illinois or Washington Univ at St. Louis.

If you are not top 10% (rank) you have little to no chance at either school unless your test scores are top-notch, which they aren't (a 27 ACT is not even average at Illinois).

Let me spell this out for you--the selectivity ranking for WUSTL is 99/100--and it's ranked among the toughest 15 colleges in the country to get into.

Univ of Illinois ranks about 48th among national universities--and it's degree of difficulty is about 94-95/100--meaning it is still among the toughest 50 schools to get into.

Your 4.2 W GPA sounds good--until we realize that means that you UW GPA is around a 3.45 to 3.5.

Here's the bit--get the UW GPA up to around a 3.6 or better--move the test score up to 29 to 30 on the ACT--and then you can get into Illinois--and also maybe Michigan. You still can't get into WUSTL with this score--but don't worry about it.

If you can't get into Illinois, Michigan, or WUSTL, then consider Ohio State, Wisconsin or Penn State--all of which have good pre-med programs--and all of which you will at least be competitive at for admission (you'll need about a 3.5 UW GPA at least at Penn State and Wisconsin--3.4 UW at Ohio State).

Good luck.

You're on the borderline with Illinois, but I doubt you'll get into WashU.

my gpa and rank should be better because the 4.2 and 80/500 are from last year and i got good grades my junior year. If i somehow got a really high ACT score, what will i have to do to get accepted at WashU? I really want to go to WashU.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

I dont have a green card yet so even if i had a great stats, i cant get into the 6yr medical programs because they require you to be a permanent resident. So im going for just a regular 4 yr undergrad, then a good medical grad school, which is why im aiming for WashU becaues they have a great medical program.
I tried to do many researches at KU Medical Center, i went and interviewd the professor, i got accepted and he was going to give me a full year job, but unfortunately, my status right now wouldnt allow me to do it. It was really relaly disappointing.
Thank you for your response!

Also QUESTION!
how big of an impact do the core classes you take in highschool have on the colleges? is it a very important factor that they take a pretty close look at?

have you thought about uw-madison? wisconsin has a great medical program from what i understand

As for what it takes to get into WashU, no one is sure! Read through the WashU boards & you'll see what I mean.

i forgot to add that i have 2 years of french (i dont know if it counts as 3 because i took french1 in middle school and took french 2 and 3 in highschool)

Also im a national honors society member.

Another question~~~
Do those non-school extra curricular activities count?
and do ECs that i do during my senior year count?

EC's can be important in admissions, depending on the school. You received a volunteer award, which I assume means you did a lot of volunteering. When you apply, make sure you list your volunteer activities in detail. If you had a longterm, involved volunteer commitment, that is a plus; make sure you capitalize on that. Nonschool EC's are definitely important.

Anything you are currently involved with at the time you apply should be listed. Don't list things you "plan" to do.

NHS is a good activity to list, but it isn't any more important than anything else (unless you hold a leadership position).

If you're not getting into Illinois, then cross Wisconsin off the list.
