Hi, I just finished my junior year and am very apprehensive about my choices of colleges. BU is definitely one of the top choices especially because my school has had several Cardinal Medieors scholars in the past. To tell u more about me, I am an immigrant from India and attend a all girls catholic school. My gpa is a 4.0 out of 4.0 and I have a 97% overall average. I am ranked the first in my class as well.
My SATs were not to great. 1820, but I retook them last week. My SATIIs were ok. Bio 700, US Hitory 660, and Chem 680. I took 3 APs this year, BIO, US HISTORY, and English Language and Comp. Next year Ill be taking AP Calc, AP Lit, AP French, Anatomy and Physiology honors, Physics honors, etc, etc. Basically I have been taking a rigorous work load, however, unlike other schools, Theology is a mandatory course for all 4 years, therefore I have been unable to take a better course load.

I also took 2 college courses, Anatomy and Physiology and Statistics, and will be taking another this summer, Psychology. I took a course at Brown last year and will be taking a course at Tufts in medicine this year. I will also be attending the NYLC for medicine.

I have good ecs

I also received honorable mention in the Dupont national Science Competition fo rmy essay on the Apolipoprotein Mutation and its effects on Atherosclerosis.

your stats are all very impressive....SAT's need to raise quite a bit...but im not in the program...so take my suggestion for what its worth...good luck

You need to raise that SAT score by a lot... at least 2100, preferably 2200+. For the SAT IIs, consider retaking Chemistry, and Math IIC is required for the 7-year program as well. Everything else looks solid, but that SAT score will keep you out. In years past, the avg. SAT of an accepted applicant was 1500 on the old SAT, so numbers are pretty important. But so long as you can up your SAT and write good essays, I think that you stand a pretty good chance for at least an interview.

Thank you kpphy88 and KG974 for your input and suggeations. I did retake my SATs and will be receiving my scores in 2 weeks. If I don't do substantially better, I will take them again and will take the ACT. I hope that standardized test scores aren't going to keep me from being accepted. I believe I did better on the SATs the second time around, but time will tell. Is there anything else I should work on other than my SAT scores?
Thanks again :)

Everything is impressive but the SAT scores which seem way low for that program. Does the BU web site provide the average range for the 7 yr MD program? It must be in the 2200--2400 range. Have you tried the ACT?

Hi guys, thank you for all of the responses. I was just wondering if you could re-evaluate my stats. I just got my SAT score 2100. 280 pts higher. math 760, cr 730, writing 610. Do you think I have a chance now?? Or should I retake and improvve the writing section? Thanks and I look forward for your responses.

From what I heard at many info sessions (I wasn't at BU), colleges did not use the writing section for evaluation for the class of 2010, nor will they be using it for the class of 2011. It's mandatory to take the writing section, but they don't know how to evaluate it so for now they're collecting the scores to look at later.

You may want to confirm this with the regional director at BU, or with the program directly. If so, you may not need to retake. If most of your 280 point increase was from Math & CR, it's unlikely those scores will go up.

with your grade, i think the SAT's are okay at this point but if you have time i would go for it again... also remember to fortify your writing skills with a kickass essay on your application!(original & creative?)

make sure you show a lot of interest in medicine throughout your application & interview.. i think that's truly what got me into the program in the end :)

We just went to an info session at BU on Friday and our speaker said they definitely DO look at the writing section. Someone in the audience asked about it. I would still check with them, however, as MomOfTwoTeens suggested.
